I have a HP Laptop dv8000 series with DVD Writer - TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-L532M.
I used to use the DVD writer quite extensively until recently. Once I downloaded the DAP (Download Accelerator). Though I unstalled it later...but ever since, I found my machine becoming a bit unstable.
Recently I observed that the files I was writing on the DVD disc, throu' Roxio (My DVD), DVD Decrypter or even ashampoo, the writer was writing but system was not able to read the disc saying that the contents are not readable or not windows compatible...i spoiled several of my DVD discs in the process. Later I got in touch with the HP online support and was advised to delete the UpperFilter and LowerFilter Registry Keys, which I did...but of no help.
Later someone suggested me to write to a re-writable DVD, which I did and then the system was able to read it...However, I was dismayed to see that the same discs (not re-writable ones, of which I spoiled quite a few), of that lot, i tried to write in a friend's laptop...where it wrote nicely...Now I am quite confused, if there is a problem with my writer or with the discs.

I see that in this forum there is a lot written on similar issue. I am positive there would be some expert who could help me.

Thank you very much for reading the mail until now and thanks in advance for helping me to resolve.

DAP has nothing to do with your problem. Try a different brand of media, and see if you have the same problem.

OK Thanx. I just mentioned that as a piece of additional info. As your suggestion, I tried writing to TDK DVD+R -> failed.
Tried writing to Maxel DVD-RW -> success.
Now i need to try some other brand DVD-R and DVD+R and also CDs.

For a burner, you are not looking for a driver update (from your other post); you are looking to flash your burner with new firmware. It is slightly more difficult but if you follow the instructions (link), you should be OK.

Since you indicated a 8000 series, I could not determine if there is new firmware for you burner. Go here (link) and select which computer model you have. You will be taken to a page with updated information for your computer. Again, I don't know if there is a firmware update for your burner.

You should also update your audio and video drivers. Unless you are having problems elsewhere, don't bother with the rest.

Your burner manufacturer's web site should tell you which blanks have been tested and which work the best for that model.

Edit: You are not the only one with problems with that burner. For example.

I do not really intend flashing !! It appears to me to be risky.
I went to the link. Howevr, did not find any firmware update for the burner.
I also checked the manufacturer's I have also tried loading the firmware updates from the samsung -
Liveudpate20_Eng_Install.exe
Liveudpate20_Eng_Patch.exe
but that did not help.
Now, i guess, I have to take backups and reinstal OS. But the prob. is that my hard disk has only one partition...hence thats a bit of a challenge.

See my edited post above with a link to a thread on cdfreaks. If it is a new laptop, complain to HP until they send you a new one.

cd, better information on firmware? rolleyes.gif

I Googled this drive and found quite a few people having this same problem.
One person that solved the trouble had both Roxio and DVD Decrypter installed and found if they uninstalled DD that all was well.It may be worth a try.Seems there could be some kind of conflict. Not saying it will solve things but it can't hurt to try.

Thanx for your response. I had re-installed Roxio but not DVD Decrypter. What is perplexing me that it is discriminating between Maxell DVD-RW(success) and TDK DVD+R(fail).
I am completely clueless on this and hv run out of options.

But, did you uninstall DVD Decrypter, which has been out of production for about 3 years?
