I'm using EMC9 and having problems trying to capture video from a VCR onto an HP M8100N with Hauppage TV tuner/capture card in back (w/ S-video /RCA Audio and Coax in ports) and a another set of inputs on the front (S-Video, composite video w/audio/ and firewire). I have a nice sony VCR with coax and composite video/RCA audio outs. Here's what I've done so far:
1- If I use the composite video cables from the vcr to the front composite inputs EMC shows the video and I can hear sound ( I have it set to Composite video 2) but it says no signal and won't allow me to press teh Capture Now button.
2- If I plug the VCR into the coax there is no signal (on the input drop down menu EMC only gives me input options S Video 1 and 2 and Composit Video 1 and 2).
3- If I use a S-Video/Composite cable adapter I can connect the VCR's Composite out to the S-Video in on the front or the back of my computer and plug in the RCA cables for sound. On S-Video 1/2 this gives me a grainy black and white video and sound, and EMC will let me capture it.

How can I capture in color from a VCR using EMC and these inputs?
Thanks,
MattW

Use the software that came with the Hauppauge card. You can then use the captured file in VideoWave, for editing.

On this machine Roxio EMC9 is only program that came installed for capturing video. Is there another program I can download free to use?
THanks.

The capture program should be there or you can go to HP web site and download the software or to the Hauppage web site.

Here is a list of cards that will definately work; other may work. You did not post the card ID.

My device manager says I have a hauppage winTV HVR-1600, but EMC9's pull down menu for devices says its a hauppage winTV 418 video capture. I'm guessing its not supported. Funny that HP put EMC9 on the machine if the installed capture card is not compatible.
From the happauge site should I install WinTV version 6? It says to uninstall/update the drivers too, I'm guessing that is going to be necesarry as well.I checked the HP website, there are no other capture programs, besides EMC9 for download. This computer had muliple compatability issues straight out of the box, so this isn't suprisng but its really annoying.
If you can let me know what program to download I would be very greatful. thanks.

Check your programs to see if you have WinTV2000 or some other WinTV. That is the program that comes with the Hauppauge card, usually.

"...Remember this card can do analog and digital at the same time. So you'll need to set it up as two tuners. I selected the Analog tuner for the 418 Video Capture and used the TS capture for the digital and mine works fine for analog and digital recording.

However I never did have much luck getting the preview window to work properly during the tuner setup. Analog was OK but the digital just didn't like to work. However after the setup everything works fine, could just be a glitch in the setup or something.

Good luck...."
