After adding several slides into a video wave project it will ALWAYS crash. Before I though it was jsut a text problem but now it can be anything. After it crashes it alwys sends an error report of this file in my temporary file. It makes no sense to me unless if my disc for EMC8 had a problem with it....

Some people have had problems with the VideoWave program and the Proxy File Manager using 100 % of the CPU time for a long period of time and then locking up. You can get this If you are adding the slides to VideoWave via Media Selector and then dragging them to the project, I have the same problem with a pretty good computer. If you use Windows Task Manager do you see this happening even when you add one or two images?

Try adding them via Add Photo/Video (you can add several at one time). This works for me. I know it is not a fix but this work-around is not all that bad.

I also am getting continual crashes in videowave8.
I can make it crash by simply adding a color panel.
Start with empty project. Add a color panel, add a
transition, add a 2nd color panel after the transition
and it will crash everytime.

I'm really disappointed so far with the product.
I wish I could have found a free trial, as I would
not have wasted $99 if I knew it would be crashing
so easily.

I got 512MB RAM, 200+GB disk, Windows 2K SP4,
all windows software up to date.

Any ideas, I cant believe the software is really that bad,
there must be some fix for this.

What size processor do you have? What kind of video card do you have? Do you have the latest drivers for it?

Make sure you have updated video drivers and the latest DirectX (FEB2006).

I got the latest drivers, etc. I was just able to reproduce it on
another totally different machine running windows XP. I can
make it crash easily in under a minute by just adding 2 color
panels to a new project. I guess I just need to avoid color
panels for now My first days using this product has not been
very promising. Tell me it will get better somehow? Although
this is the only application I really wanted to use in the suite.

I tried to reproduce what you have had problems with. I had no problem. It did not crash.

hmm, this is really frustrating. This is a straight retail install
on two different machines that have never had any video editing
software on them. One is win2K, one is winXP. Both crash in
the same manner. They crash almost everytime I add a color
panel, but the easiest way to reproduce is to just run VideoWave
from the start menu. with an empty project (how it starts).
It is in storyline mode.
I do these exact steps and it will crash on either computer.
(a) select panel 1 (ie. click it)
(b) Production -> Add Color Panel
© select any color, press OK.
(d) Production -> Add Transistion
(e) select any transition, OK
(f) select insert transition AFTER current current panel
(you now have one panel of color, one transition)
(g) select panel 2
(h) Production -> Add Color Panel
(i) select any color, OK.
*CRASH*
VideoWave8.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.
You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. [OK].

Where can I find this error log? Maybe it will show where it is crashing
at?? like a dll name or something?

Help About indicates it is Build 805B56B ENU
and check for updates says there are no updates needed.

Is that the only way to know if this is the latest version?
It is the version that came on the CD (retail).

Without being able to add color panels, the software is not much
use to me unless there is an alternate way of doing it. When
editing a movie, it will usually crash on the 1st color panel I
try and insert.

I don't see where you ever supplied the requested information on what size processor and what kind of video card you have. That could be helpful to pointing to a possible cause.

I was able to crash the program by following your procedure. I don't know why that happens using that "Production/Add color panel" command from the command line. Interesting that I got a DrWatson crash error.

I cannot get it to happen if I select a panel and right click, select the insert color panel and then select the color. I think you go some of the responses you did because few people use that command line for adding color panels.

I can recreate the crash also using the Production\Add Color Panel process when in the storyline view. The only difference is that my system crashes when attempting to add the first color panel. However, when I switch to the timeline view, I can add multiple color panels using the Production\Add Color Panel procedure. Similarly, When I right click on a blank panel in the storyline view, select Add Color Panel, I can add several color panels with transitions without any crashes. Weird

Just to test, try switching to the timeline and adding color panels using the Production\Add Color Panel process.

Sknis, thanks so much. Yes, that works much better. I was not aware
of the right click method. I've only had the software a few days and was
following the example in a book I bought which uses the pull down menus.
Right clicking much faster and doesn't crash. I dunno if it means anything
different, but the pull down menu says "add color panel" and the right click
says "insert color panel". With the "add color panel" after you select a
color it asks you where/what you want done with it, versus the "insert" which
just inserts it right away. Maybe the two features are supposed to be
slightly different??

Cool, now I can start doing some fun stuff and hopefully my subsequent posts
I will be asking questions about how to best use the software. I got a pile
of video tapes to start converting (as probably lots of you do) and lots to
learn.

My version of VideoWave8 will crash when I press OK at step c (select any color, press OK) in storyboard mode. This does not happen in timeline mode. This does not happen if I follow a similar procedure for VideoWave7.

My eventlog (start/run/eventvwr.msc) has the following information that is exactly the same from crash to crash:
