I would like to make a data disc with ton's of pictures I have taken with my Digital Camera.. So many pictures that I need to delete about one half of them.
I copied them to a new DVD, I made sure the "Read Only" check box was not checked and the files are still "Read Only"..
Any suggestions.

If you used Creator Classic (which you should have) to make that DVD, it will always show "Read Only". That is the nature of optical media.

If you used Drag to Disc, you should be able to delete pictures, but using D2D is a poor way of archiving important files.

I do have a Western Digital "My Book" one terrabyte that I use to back up all of my photos..
This is just to take them with me so I can edit them while away from home..
