I have some DVDs of material I recorded off the TV using my DVD recorder. I would like to edit the material and then burn it back to DVD for viewing.

I thought converting the files from these DVDs to mpg files would be really easy, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I'm certain there must be something really obvious that I'm overlooking.

Anyone help me out?

What is the format of the files you recorded? Did you use TiVO or another recorder?

I used Philips DVDR 615 DVD Recorder.

Actually, I figured out the first thing I was doing wrong. I didn't realize that in Roxio you import video from a DVD. I thought you would just convert it.

So, I went into the Media Importer and clicked Video. I had my DVD in the drive. When I clicked on the device drop down, my drive was listed, so I selected it. Then, the left-hand screen just reverted back to opening menu for the Media Importer.

I then clicked the Audio button and did the same thing and I got all my chapters and everything listed out. When I clicked back on the Video it closed out the Media Importer. I tried it again several times with different discs (even some Warner Brothers film DVDs) all with the same results...could import the audio, but not the video.

As a last resort I even tried the Repair function with the program disc, and I still get the same results.

Any ideas?

What are the file extension of the files on the DVD?

You don't capture those files. You copy them to a folder on your hard drive, then bring them into VideoWave for editing.

DRM (copyright protected) material can't be copied or edited. That could include the Warner DVD and prehaps some of the video recorded from the TV.
