I'm new here, Nova. Hi.

I have read similar posts, but cannot find an answer that works.

I am trying to convert MP3 files already on my PC to another format. Previously there was no problem. I could adjust the Recording Level and balance just fine. Now they are both grayed out. I can record, but upon playback the sound is very quiet and full of an almost, but not quite, staticy noise.

I tried updating my sound card's drivers, but no dice. I tried messing with my recording controlls, but don't really know what I'm doing there. Simply put, nothing turned the Recording Level and Balance controls on EAC back on.

Any more advice?

Any more information? Is EAC Easy Audio Capture? Laptop or desktop? What happens if you use Sound Editor, adjust the volume and then export the tracks to the new format?
