Hi
My creator 9 suddenly won´t start. I´m running Vista premium home edition.
Any ideas?

You will need to do the Clean Install – Clean Install

Then you need to update it to 9.1 – Update

I would download the update before starting the Clean Install.

Thanks a lot for your advice. But the program was preinstalled on my computer so there´s no CD available to make a reinstall. Can I upgrade anyhow and have the reg-entries rewritten in the process?

greetings

You will have to contact the OEM (Dell, HP or whoever) and ask for a backup CD
jazzgossen
OK Thanks! Maybe I´ll find the files somewhere on the disk. Must be there somewhere.

Sorry but manufacturers' restore discs don't quite work that way - they re-install everything, including the OS and anything else supplied. You can't pick and choose part of that

To restore one program only, you will need a separate CD with that particular program on it.

If you want to use the restore disc, you will need to copy off evertyhing you have saved on the PC, documents, music, photos, etc because a full restore will wipe all that out

I found a "smartrestore"-option from the manufacturer that probably will fix it. It will reinstall creator9 from the original files on my HD.

Thank!

Let us know how it goes.

If you can install one program, go ahead - if it fails, follow the clean install instructions in the pinned post at the top of the forum
jazzgossen
The program was reinstalled and seems to work alright. I´ll do the upgrade to prevent this problem to occur again. Seems that a reg-scan can mess things up.

Thanks for your help!

Oh registry cleaners do mess things up badly (well some do - I use Ashampoo WinOptimizer and never had a problem)

Patches - if it's an OEM version, the patch from Roxio won't work - that is specifically for the full retail version so be careful applying it
jazzgossen
OK I´ll check it out!

Thanks again for all help!

Why go to all this fuss? Clean uninstall and upgrade ? Restore ?

Now we know it was a registry cleaner that killed it, it's a known issue, and is simply fixed once and for all by downloading and running the Repairer program for EMC 9 which is available from a link halfway down THIS PINNED POST hosted courtesy of Cdanteek.

Because he has already re-installed? tongue.gif
Brendon
Yes, but if EMC 9 suddenly won't start, a reg cleaner and the Repairer should be the first thought.
gi7omy
Already covered earlier oh man in all-black laugh.gif
jazzgossen
I have read the recent conversation and of course I will download the zip mentioned. Or correct the reg-entry.

Thank you guyes for sharing your knowledge.

So this problem goes back that far? I was out of town for the holidays and haven't used Roxio, or at least a video portion of Roxio, for some time. I did burn the Windows7 beta. Anything DVD in Roxio is dead. I've uninstalled 5 times and the 9.1 thing won't load... says it's interupted and quits. This is a Microsoft issue, I know it. I will be doing a complete re-install of my OS and turning off all Windows Updates. I've got a call in to MS support and they are supposed to send me info when it's available about which update killed Roxio 9 (yeah, like that will ever really happen). Good thing I have a friend or two that work at MS>

Anyone else realize that 9.1 is licensed to Microsoft? Does this mean I've lost my Roxio 9 license since 9 won't re-install? I keep getting this message that says the drivers for the program are not digitally signed so the program won't work correctly. It's all a scam.

If you are running Windows 7 beta all bets are off regarding the installation of any other software including any version of Roxio.. I would think that is obvious to anybody.
I have no idea what you mean by "Anyone else realize that 9.1 is licensed to Microsoft?"? EMC 9 is a Roxio product not a Microsoft product.
