I want to burn a DVD and send it to England. I think I need to burn it in another format in order for it to work over there. I have no idea how to go about this, or if Roxio will do it. Could I get some advice about this. Thank You. Mary

You are thinking about PAL color encoding system. Don't worry about it, most players outside the US will play the us NTSC or PAL. Check with whoever you are sending it to to make sure. The PAL/NTSC is one of the settings in My DVD (DVD Builder) project properties.

The opposite is not true, most US players will play only NTSC color system so if your contact in GB it should be in NTSC unless you are going to edit it before playing it.

Open Videowave, click on 'more settings' and select PAL 25 fps

However, almost all DVD players here can handle the US format

I spoke too soon, I do need some advice. I had made a DVD of wedding videos taken on a video camera. I do not have the original video, just the DVD. I downloaded it onto my hard drive, but when I go into Videowave or MYDVD, it shows the folder as empty. The video is there, but Roxio won't recognize it. I realize I might be up a creek, as I don't think I can edit a video once it has been burned to a DVD. Do I have any other options in trying to copy a NTSC to a PAL language???? Would like to send one of each to England, just in case one does not work. Thanks. Mary

Exactly what did you download from the DVD to your hard drive?
You should be copying the Video_TS folder from the DVD to a folder on your hard drive. Then launch Videowave and add the vob files from the Video_TS folder.

I used "Coppy DVD Movies to Hard Drive" and under Destination I put "disc Image". The video is in a file folder, but it has the blue EMC9 Icon. When I open it, it goes right to Roxio. But if I go to Videowave or My DVD it says there is nothing in that file folder. Perhaps I used the wrong function to copy it to my hard drive. Thanks. MK

This time it worked. When I downloaded it into Videowave, I first clicked PAL under more settings. When I burned it with MYDVD I clicked PAL again. Is there a way to check to make sure it did burn in the PAL language. I went under the properties, but that didn't give me the info. Just wanted to make sure I have one in each language. PAL isn't a language - in fact it's not even a TV system

PAL (Phase Alternate Line) is simply the colour sub-system in most European countries (France and Russia use SECAM instead of PAL)

There's no way of checking it really - but as I've said before, practically every DVD player can handle the US based NTSC TV system

Daithi, only way I've found is Cyberlink Power DVD, I don't use cineplayer.

I honestly don't think that could really check it CD.

Computers generally work at 30 fps and the input is RGB (no chroma or luminance signal as such). PAL uses R-Y and B-Y (Y is Luminance - black and white picture) and the R and B are the two Red and Blue Chroma inputs (Green is done by differentiation of R, B and Y)

But, as I said, every player over here for some years back has been NTSC playback capable

My Power DVD shot shows 720x480, wouldn't Pal show 720x576. GSpot should show you the same thing, sorry I don't have any Pal to try!

TV standard here is 625 line at 25 fps - I don't have my calculator handy but that should work out at approximately 640 x 516 in pixel terms (allowing for overscan and interlace)

Well, let me tell you, it sure is fun to learn new things at my age. I also have Cyberlink Power DVD, but had never really used it - it just was there. So I followed the directions, and sure enough one DVD is listed as PAL and one is listed as NTSC. Yesterday I knew nothing about these two functions and now I understand it a bit more.
