I edit in Avid, export QT ref file and author in DVDit Pro HD. Project takes 10 hours to complete. I have done many projects and all take 10 hours. I import the same QT ref into Adobe Encore and it completes disc in less than 3. I have also tried exporting HDV file from Avid with the same results. For some reason DVD it is just slow. Anyone else editing in Avid having similar results? If not, what is your workflow to speed things up.
HDV files are no bigger than DV for crying out loud!

Do you have any alternative MPEG-2 creation tools? If you create your assets outside of DVDitPro HD, then import them, it goes much quicker. Check the frequent topics list for creating legal MPEG-2 streams.

DVDITPRO HD should never be used to compress video.

sorry, but it just doesn't do a satisfactory job and it makes the job
unstable and unlikely to do a full build and burn. it's what most
people complain about.

It works exceptionally well when ALL assets are prepared in advance.

Encore doesn't always take less time either. for most people it
takes a very long time to do anything in Encore without crashing.

I know you asked about HD, but for what it is worth, this is my workflow.

Once my videos are edited and saved in a DVD compliant format (I use mpeg2) DVDit does not need to re-encode and the process is lightning quick.

After the menus etc. are created, I am delighted to say that DVDit can prepare a DVD and save all the files etc. usually in less than 10 minutes for a SD project.

I can then test the files, the chapter points, button navigation etc. and burn it to DVD using any burning software (I use Nero).

I use a Toshiba 2.1 GHz laptop with 3Gb RAM, standard video card and Windows XP.

it's a much better app when everything is prepared in advance which is how
most people that do it for a living go about it.

unfortunately the new and inexperienced user will have difficulty with this.

I'm not new or inexperienced, unless you think that 30 years in the video business is new.
After several tests I have given up using DVDit "Pro" as it is NOT a "Pro" DVD authoring program, far from it in fact.

It doesn't even have blu-ray pop-up menu support as well as MANY other features found in more professional authoring programs.

Today, I continue my work flow as usual and am able to output a blu-ray and Standard DVD in less than 4 hours, where DVDit is just getting started.

I didn't say YOU were. There are many newbies out there that think everything
can just be thrown together and spit out a picture perfect disc.....never works that way.

30 years of video experience doesn't mean anything in the here and now.
