I have been successfully making BluRay projects on DVDitProHD since March `07. These have played and still play on my Sony BDP-S1 (now up to 4.30 firmware). Four months ago I purchased a new 80gb PS3 for faster bootup, CD playback and web access. It seemed to play my titles fine when I bought it, but now none of my old or even new discs are recognized at all. Media seems no to be the issue: my older Imation BD-R, new Verbatim BD-R and old Sony BD-RE discs still play on the BDP-S1 (and relatives' BDP-S300) but don't on PS3. Standard DVD output has no trouble on either BDP-S1 or PS3.

I fear that Sony and Hollywood are slowly revoking keys, despite homegrown content being non-protected.

I make discs as long term storage options, not something that can be deemed uplayable at a whim.

Any ideas?

Authoring details: DVDitProHD 6.3 631b04a of 3/15/07 PS3 patch installed May`07. Authored from 1080x1440 Cineform intermediate .avi out of Premiere Pro 2. Output Constant bit rate=25mbps. PS3 firmware is 2.52

version 6.4 seems to build discs that work fine on all players.

I have made approx. 17 blu-ray disc projects over the past couple of years - all with 6.4 that play on PS3 firmware 2.60 (most recent). (perhaps you should obtain 6.4 [doesn't require the PS3 patch] and try it on a sample project.

Players and functions don´t stop working by itself, I am using 6,3 and the montecarlo patch myself on bd discs with success played on my PS 3 , current firmware 2,6

You must start asking yourself if you have added any new codecs to your sys or changed any settings in your PS 3.

Well, this was a PS3 only issue, but nothing sinister. [My editing/authoring suite has been frozen for over a year]

A google search on "PS3 won't play BluRay" had lots of hits and some cited disc head cleaning and even Sony replacements. Before squalking directly I loaded every commercially pressed BluRay in the house (10 of em) and all played. Then I tried my own discs and all played again!

Apparently, the edge-loading PS3 is far more dust prone than the BDP-S1 player. Loading discs must run a clean cycle and several cycles did the trick. Dust lowers apparent contrast and BD-R (dye based media) and BD-RE (phase change media) have lower contrast than pressed discs, so the problem showes up here first

Problem of not playing BD-R and RE came back. Will be returning the unit.

The PS3 lens could be going out, if your still under warranty you should be fine. If not, the lens can be replaced for about $60-70 and it's not too complicated to do.
