First communication here... I'll try to get it right.
Problem:
Roxio completely shuts down my computer every time I try to add a video effect.
Specs:
I'm using MyDVD9 with a Sony DVD Burner on a Dell 530S, Vista Home Premium, Genuine Intel® CPU 2140 @ 1.60GHz, 0.99 GB RAM, 32-bit operating system.

Usually I'm able to add 1 or 2 effects before the shutdown occurs. I have tried all of the following:
-uninstall/reinstall
-upgrade, (did so from previous version, MyDVD8 ? I think)
-installed a patch, named d2d3290 per instructions due to a clerical error in Vista

Also... there is no Timeline in the Production Editor of my program.
I've used this program successfully for about a year now, to put video and pictures together - along with a soundtrack for various family members.* Up till now, I've been able to resolve most of the problems, (like purchasing a dvd burner!), but this is definitely beyond my level of expertise.

Can anyone help? Thanks!
Indre

*Kudos to Roxio for providing the means that allowed my son to take "the family" with him when he was sent to Iraq last year. He is back home with his wife and son now, alive and well ...AND... enjoying those dvd's with his family.

First, a big thank you, to your son, for fighting for our Country. Tell him, Thanks.

Now, for your problem. It appears that your program has many things stripped out of it, including the Timeline. There isn't anything you can do about that, except get a full retail version of one of the Roxio suites.

What video card do you have, and have you updated it to the latest video drivers available? That may be the problem with your crashing.

A little more info please…

The Dell 530 doesn't have video card but will run Roxio in Vista.

Did the software come with the PC or did you purchase it separately?

If you have MyDVD there is no way the Timeline can be removed from the program. If yours is missing, it would be due to lack of graphics card.

Try setting it to Software Render – MyDVD – Tools – Options.

Most likely you need to run the Repair option along with Software Render. Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs – Roxio – Change. It will whirl and clack a little then offer to Repair.
