Tried burning a CD using both my desktop and notebook. When playing the CD burned on a Denon DCM390 burned on the desktop, the Denon CD player would not recognize the disc. However, it played the one burned on the notebook.

All the settings for both systems are the same. Both CD's will play on a car CD player and the TV DVD player.

Any ideas would be great.

I take it this is an Audio cd you've made.

If you used the same software on both machines with the same settings then the result should be the same.
As far as an Audio cd goes there really isn't many options.Also an Audio cd is finalized automatically (you can't leave one open) so that shouldn't be a problem.
Did you use the same spindle of cd's for both?
Did you use R's for both (not RW's)?

Which part of the software did you use to make the disc?
Try Music Disc Creator for both discs.

Could it be the CD burner? both are Lightscribe.

Lightscribe shouldn't matter,that's for labels.

I'm not sure what would make them come out differently.An Audio cd is made to a standard so this kind of thing doesn't come up.

Have you tried this more than once and it happens every time?
There must be something between the Desktop and the Denon that just doesn't mesh or there's a problem with the disc.
Take a look at the one that doesn't work in Windows Explorer.You should find a few files that are .cda and 1Kb in size.These are what should be on an Audio cd.

Junk media can make a difference. One Burner may be just making it enough to be readable whereas the other Burner isn't.

Your Denon being the lowest common denominator when reading.

Using a quality brand like Verbatim may make the difference.

Your Laptop was running on AC power at the time?

Yes, the laptop was on 120v. Now when burning with the laptop and desktop neither will play on the Denon.

Talked with Denon today and it was suggested to slow down the burn speed. Is that possible?

If your making a Audio CD, Roxio Software should be burning it to Red Book (audio CD standard).

What format was the "Denon tech" referring to?

As far as burn speed, when you click burn, don't you get a window with a choice of burners and a drop down arrow/box with available burn speeds?

What application in the program are you using to burn the Audio CD?

Is your Roxio EMC V 10 a bought retail version or a OEM came with the PC version?

Back to CD media, what brand name a X speed CD's have you tried?

What X speed are you burning those CD's at?

There are several posts of folks having trouble with Denon players, they seem less forgiving than others....

Many thanks for the reply. The format mentioned is 'ISO9660 Level1'.
Yes, I see the burn speeds. Tried 16x and that did not help. Most times using max of 52x.
Using Music Disc Creator retail version.
Bought CDs from emedia using Prodisk white and Silver Shiny. These have worked before using v9 and 10 but not now.

No software I know allows for any CD Audio, CDA or CDDA setting.

I don't think the Denon tech knows his/her stuff!

Did he tell you that your model Denon would play burned CD media? If so did he recommend any brand name of CD media?

Borrow some different media, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, stick with R media no RW.

Look for a matte finish or white ink jet printable top and a different color dye on the burned side if possible to try..

IMO that is the fix, good CD-R media.

Burned two Taiyo Yuden cds, one on the desktop, the other on a laptop. On the Denonn, the desktop played for 0:38 and the laptop played for 1:11. The Denon tried to move onto other tracks but did not play in both cases. The cd has 40+ minutes of restored vinyl tracks.

It appears to me that the Denon might be a cause. Your thoughts?

Have been told that a possible problem could be the write speed of the CDs that I am using. Including the Taiyo Yudens which is 52x. Have been looking for some 4x or 8x write speeds. What are your thoughts?

You won't find a newer CD (48 or 52X) with a write speed lower than 12 or 16X. Some of that depends on the burner and it's firmware. For example my two older drives the Sony and BenQ show the lowest speed at 12X, the newer Samsung S203N lowest is 16X..You can download this free tool for checking disc info it's # 2. CD-DVD Speed renamed DiscSpeed, in my signature.
