Dear all,

I was trying to encode a PCM multi-channel audio track for a Blu-ray project,
unfortunately DVDIt Pro HD won't recognize the file (I tried both WAVE and AIFF in 48
and 96 kHz). It imports fine, but the item's property window shows
"Audio(unknown)" instead of "Audio (Wave)" or "Audio (AIF)". As far as I know,
'unknown' audio files will be transcoded (and downmixed) to stereo, which
renders the 5.1 PCM file useless.

Could anyone recommend a software to create (DVDIt Pro compatible) 5.1 or
7.1 PCM files from single mono tracks?

BTW: I was trying to encode the files with MultiWave and Audacity.

yeah I was having trouble with that too, so I just stick with AC-3 at
the highest bit rate.

I've just found out that it seems to be impossible to mix PCM (2.0) and AC3 (5.1) files,
so it's either PCM OR AC3 but not both on the SAME disc at the SAME time .

If "PCM" is selected in the HD transcoding settings window, DVDIt converts my AC3
to 2.0 PCM, if I chose "DD 2/0" then the stereo track is converted to AC3 @ 384 kBit
although, and that's the weird thing, the manual says that DVDIt does not have a
DD encoder.

What am I doing wrong here?!

I encode surround 5.1 .AC3 files separately, then import them in.
(using apple compressor)

I encode all assets separately as that delivers the best results.

That's exactly what I do: I use Compressor 2.0 for AC3 encoding. I have no idea
why DVDIt converts the stereo track (WAVE file) to Dolby Digital. The question is:
WHY won't the WAV file pass through?

that´s very easy!

please look into your dvdit-preferences (or was it within the project-setting??), there is a transcoding-section within. there it a option wheather it will use WAV or AC3-audio.

I guess you will have AC3

PS: even PCM will be transcodet to PCM sometimes! strange behave!!

you need to use a different programm to do so, sorry! this is not possible with DVDitHD!

Dostudio, scenarist or blueprint could handle this, even encore is transcoding one of the audios as I know! I´m not sure about other PC-programms, as far as I´m a MAC-user as well!

This sounds like a clusterf**k of highest proportions!!!

See page 160 of the manual:

"When you import files, DVDit Pro HD checks that they meet the requirements for DVDVideo
and Blu-ray. If the files are compliant, they are not transcoded when you burn a disc."

... and page 40:

"DVDit Pro HD does not re-encode multi-channel Dolby Digital audio, even if you select the
“Convert All Compliant Video and Audio Files” option."

The manual doesn't say that it's EITHER WAV OR AC3, nor does it say that a 5.1 AC3 will be
downcoverted to a 2.0 stereo WAVE if "PCM" is selected in the 'HD Transcoding' tab.

get rid of the compressor made ac3 and use another program to create ac3. i believe they are the wrong bit order. usually when there is an asset that dvditprohd does not like, it fails at the building bd folder part of the mux
