I have used Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 for many years and have created and burned many dvd's with chapters. All of a sudden i am working on a new dvd project and am trying to create chaptes in my menu and i keep getting the error message "update chapter menus operation failed - invalid audio source" I have tried going in through the help menu to search for product updates and it keep coming up as no new updates to install. Any advise on this issue would be helpful so i can finish my project started.

Moved to EMC 9 section of the forum since you didn't mention that you had updated to Creator 2009.

Are you getting that error message in the menu or submenu or in the production itself? If in the menu or sub-menu and you have not changed the default music, something has become corrupted.

If your, do you have any DRM protected music? For example, from ITunes? Any mono audio, or mp3 that may be different? If yous, add the music into to Sound Editor and export it to a wav file and try that.

Not yet. When you go to burn, burn (encode) to an ISO (image) file; uncheck the other burn options. If it encodes, just copy that ISO file to a disc using Creator Classic. If that doesn't work, come back and let us know. Usually at that point it is a burner problem or bad discs.

What about the music I asked about?

alright - i tried burning dvd as an iso file.... it gets to 97% and shows burning menu 1 of 4 and freezes up. i have to cntrl + alt + delete to completely shut down mydvd program.

as for the music... i did change the default music on project but i am still using music from within roxio. i am not using any personal music mp3's or itunes.

Open the project in Video Wave and select output as"mpg2 for DVD best quality" (film reel icon above the preview screen). Encode the file. If it hangs, then there is something wrong in the project. Look at the time where is hanges to try to find the error. If it encodes, then use that in MyDVD.

tried this - got an error message:

unable to build the render graph

what now? i have also been getting an error message that my video card may be out of date - i have tried updating both through dell and roxio and apparently there arent any updates or my computer just isnt accepting them. also - my project is almost 6 hours long. could the project time have anything to do with any of the problems i am having?

also tried this:

opened project in videowave
file, burn with mydvd express
did not change any settings - kept default everything - menu, music, etc
create disc
unchecked burn to disk - checked burn as iso
completed 100%
but then received an error message:
8004521E error while recording menus

Check this, for unable to burn render graph.

http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en

Also, if your project really is 6 hours long, it isn't going to happen. blink.gif What made you think that you could burn a 6 hour program to any DVD?

That error may be in error ! blink.gif

Download VLC (free player). Play that ISO file with that program. If it plays, copy the ISO file to a blank DVD RW usingCreator Classic. Try it in your computer and in a DVD player. Does it play?

There is either something wrong with your computer or with the project. In Video Wave, when you went to encode the file to "mpg for DVD, best quality", you said you got the error about the render graph. You fixed that, right?

In Video Wave, do you have the encoding set to software. To check, go to the top menu, select tools, then options and see if the dot is near hardware or software. if it is near hardware, switch it to software.

Did you use any 3D transitions in your project? You must change those because they will not be available in software render.

What Video card/chip do you have? If you have an older computer, the chip may not be fully DirectX 9c compatible. If it is not a laptop, the best thing to do is to buy a reasonable video card and put it into your computer, A video card with 256 memory on board is sufficient but 512 would be better. The cost would be between $75 and $100; less if you can get one on sale.

Please post all your computer specs.

When you did the encoding in Video Wave, after you did the updates, did the encoding start or did you get an immediate error?

Perhaps it is time to do a full clean install.

You need a video card. That Rage card is outdated by about 8 years, but since you were able to use EMC 9 before, you should be able to do so now, too.

Is your computer running a Pentium 4 processor, and if so, which one?

I am surprised that it would do any video work, with EMC 9. It is very underpowered to do video work. If you actually were successful, in doing video work, it had to be painstakingly slow.

yes it is VERY VERY slow anytime i burn a dvd project to disc.... any suggestions on what to do to speed it up?

also, anytime i am running any part of the roxio programs it eats up about 90% or so of my computers memory....any suggestions on why it takes up so much memory?
sknis
You are trying to run the Indy 500 in a VW Beetle. To speed it up, you will need a new engine (computer.) mellow.gif

Is it using memory or CPU time?

Yes, but the important thing is CPU use. Since it worked in the past and does not work now, what programs have you added or what updates? Perhaps you can use windows restore to get the computer back to where it was working and then add in the updates to see wht causes it to fail.

Sorry, perhaps it is time to consider a different program or a new computer. Have you tried the built-in Windows Movie Maker?
