Please help!!

My computer was infected with viruses and I needed to reinstall my computer from scratch. I reinstalled my Windows XP, I do NOT have explorer version 7. I have IE6. Also, I have not installed Windows Media center yet. There seems to be a problem with Media Centre version 11.

One of the main differences is that I have installed now SP3 on the computer. I used to have SP2.

When I start the installation, the installation quits and give me the following error message:

Error 1306. Error reading from file C:\Program Files\Fichiers communs\Roxio Shared\Dragon\1033\DDIffo.chm. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

This specific file does not exist. I guess that the computer did not reach the point of installing it yet.

Can anyone help?

I'd be real careful about that message. I know that you have reinstalled XP but have you installed anything else that could have been infected with malware? Where did you get the EMC 8 that you are installing?

Could that file be part of Media Center? I can't find anything good about it on-line.

I would be very surprised if the computer would be re-infected. I reinstalled some software that I have on their original CDs. For the EMC8, I took the original CD out of the box for the 2nd time only.

The only other software that I have installed on the computer is the following:
Microsoft office XP
Windows Updates, which includes SP3
Java update.
Firefox.
That's it. I did not even install an anti-virus product for the time being.


I purchased the product back in late 2006. I have the box, everything.

Question. When you say that you reinstalled XP from scratch, does that mean you did a Format C:, before you installed? Also, did you copy files, from your existing drive, prior to doing a new install of XP, then copy them to your hard drive, after the new XP install? If so, it is possible that one of those files is infected.

the HD has been formatted. I did not copy files from existing drives for now. I just cannot imagine having another virus on this new system. Unless installing Firefox has this problem.

Problem solved!!!

It was stupid. The disk was dirty and I did not see it. I simply assumed that it would be clean as for the rest of my software disks.

The software is now installed and seems to be working good now.
