Full Version: Not Seeing Dvrs
Roxio Community > Macintosh Applications > TiVo Transfer, Mac2TiVo, and TiVoToGo
BCN
Just built up a new Mac as a media box, and very unimpressed with Roxio/Toast and Tivo's alliance with them. First purchased the software via download (took an hour or so), then was told I needed the 538 updater, which was the same bundle size and that took another hour.

Now I have followed all of the recommendations of the users (not the documentation, which is mute on the subject) in this community group to get the Tivo Downloads installed but after rebooting Mac, all Tivos, switch and routers (severall times), I cannot get Mac/Toast/TivoTransfer to see either of the HD Tivo boxes within the software.

Followed a couple of folk's idea to HTTPS: into the box (a new note I was unaware of in the past: will do that in future on my PCs) and currently fetching in my first attempt, but I would rather queue the program up in the program I actually had to pay for; I have some idea that perhaps the Tivo is not producing any Bonjour packets, as the Mac isn't seeing the darn things. I got this idea from someone who knows Macs and networking, but not Tivos.

I have turned off the OS X firewall, so I don't think that ought to be the issue. Any ideas? Any are appreciated.

You might want to try running Bonjour Browser on the Macintosh (available here) and see if your TiVo appears

Some routers come pre-configured to block Bonjour traffic (also known as multicast DNS -- or mDNS). On some Linksys routers, the configuration option is backward in that enabling multicast actually disables it.
