Full Version: Any Efficient Way Of Avchd Files Conversion?

Is there any efficient way of AVCHD files conversions using Roxio? I just purchased it and I am pretty fed up. I have Ulead Movie Factory which crashes during the file conversions. Roxio "drag and drop file conversions" also does not work giving me information tha files conversion has been canceled.
During video editing I am able to convert files. However, it requires confirmation of each operation - "save" and "done". It is Ok if I convert one or two files but if I am adding 100 files it is pretty annoying that for each file I have to clik twice to confirm operation.
Is there any automatic way of files conversion?

Conversion from – to???

VW and MyDVD create a proxy file so you can essentially forget about what your source is. It is only rendered into appropriate format upon burn.

I would like to create DVD movie based on my AVCHD files. When I add AVCHD files directly to VideoWave I am getting the following message: "Some or all of the files you selected must be converted to the editable format. The original files will not be affected. Would you like to convert them now?" Then I have to click on "Save" and "Done" many times.
The same applies for MyDVD - I am getting the same messages.
Is there any way to convert AVCHD files automatically with clicking mouse 100's times?
Jim_Hardin
Basically no – 50 clips = 100 clicks.

Although Drag and Drop Convert (SyncIt!) seems to do it without a fuss. That might be what you want to explore...

As I mentioned above. Syncit does not work giving me message: Conversion canceled.

It crashes Ulead…

It crashes SyncIt…

It is your files that appear to be the problem. Tell us more about them.

You are very helpful glare.gif Thanks, if you are not able to help do not reply in the future.
Problem with syncit with AVCHD files was described on this forum by someone else and still remaining without reply.
I am an amateur and I am not going to spend time on editing movies using advanced programs. I want simple program to copy my files to DVD at the moment( in the future to BR disks).

You are arrogant… laugh.gif Best of luck! Not so much - mutual misunderstandings...

This is usually where the sales pitch for a better product is posted by the OP.

Some people just will not listen especially if they don't like the answer.

I am very sorry. I misunderstood your previous reply. I read it too quickly. I took it wrongly as an ironic reply. I would like to apologize you again for my impolite reply.

Files are directly transferred from Canon HG 10.
If I convert them one-by-one it is OK with Ulead. However if I wnat to convert more files i.e. 10 program crash.
SyncIt does not work giving my cancellation message without any additional info. It does not matter if I convert one or more files.
As I mentioned I can convert files with MyDVD and VW but it is pretty time consuming and annoying.
Is there any simple method to create a DVD based on the AVCHD files.

Try using the Video compilation mode of Video Copy & Convert. Can't get any easier than that.

I believe Greg wants to use scenes from various movies he has recorded while retaining his HD recordings for later use. – Straighten me out on this if I am off base!

As a result he is looking for a fast method to convert his HG 10 source files into mpeg2 so that he can work directly with them.

I don’t have a HD Camcorder so I can only test with what I have been able to scrounge. I have an mts file (Canon?) and an mp4 file – both of which run through SyncIt without a squawk.

So my direction of thought is running a couple of ways…

Maybe SynIt isn’t up to snuff so a Clean Install would be in order.

Or we are dealing with a format that just causes trouble in some software???

The proxy files and their attendant OK – OK clicks are fine for one or 2 Add Photo/Video’s but become darned annoying if 10 clips are added! - Is there a better way to handle this?

VC&C should be able to do that assuming his files add with no issues. smile.gif He can add as many clips as he chooses.

Personally, I prefer to use the term 'clip' when referring to video from the camcorder. Less confusing. Scenes and Chapters seem to be used interchangeably when referring to DVD menu structure.

I would agree that if SyncIt isn't working, perhaps a clean install may fix it. I've never used it.

That's exactly what I am currently interested in. Keep my AVCHD files and publish the directly to DVD with minimum efforts to be able to show them to others.

I re-installed it twice. Does not work.

It is pretty new and according to what I heard some users experieced problems with it.

Exactly, you need a lot of patience.

Did you actually do the Clean Install or just simply un-install/reinstall? As I mentioned before I got my very limited samples (2 rolleyes.gif ) to run through SyncIt without a hitch. 2 samples does not give SyncIt the Good Housekeeping Seal

What is the format of the files from the Canon HG 10? Is it that mts extension I mentioned?

The actual AVCHD format is elusive. It seems to be anything anybody wanted it to be, thus the compatibility problems. (might be why Blu-Ray won the format war)

Also curious how you moved the clips from your camcorder to your PC?

Canon gives video files in M2TS format.
I transferred them using the Ulead software provided with the camera.
I have not done a Clean re-install I will do it may be tomorrow.

The Clean Install procedure for Vista are located here Here. (sorry, not on my regular PC now)

I am hoping this will bring SyncIt back to where it should be of use to you. But the M2TS is not a format I have been able to test with…

I upgraded to Creator 2009 specifically for import of AVCHD (Lite admittedly) directly into Videowave. It claims to do the conversion but the MPEG file created is unusable. Fortunately I had already found an alternative converter that works perfectly and will do batch conversion, which is what I think you are looking for. So if you are prepared to do your batch conversion before employing Roxio Creator applications, the free and downloadable WINFF application will be ideal. It is a bit odd because Winff is just a GUI interface for using programmable presets already available from mpegff. Thus you make your selections in Winff and the conversion runs in a DOS Window but it is very fast. Here is the download link:

Hope this solves your problem

I'm also experiencing the same problem - I bought Creator 2009 Ultimate specifically for the ability to quickly convert from AVCHD files to a web format that I can share with my family. SyncIt should have been the tool for me but if fails with the generic "conversion cancelled" message and no way to determine why. I have found a work around within Creator but it's far from convenient. Here are my details in case anyone can help.

Camera: Canon HG-20
OS: Vista 64 SP2
System: Core 2 Duo (2.66Ghz) - 4Gb Ram - Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 - ~231Gb free disk space on the main drive + ~400Gb on extra drive.
File format: Canon FXP setting (second from highest) - resulting in .m2ts or mts files after import (using Canon software, or the camera as a drive respectively).

Repro steps:
1. clean install of Creator 2009 + latest SP (this is my first time using the product - I did not uninstall/reinstall at any point)
2. place files on local disk - file extension .mts or .m2ts (both result in the same problem)
3. open creator 2009
4. from creator - video movies - open drag and drop converter
5. from drag and drop converter select output format - I tried all of them
6. drag file to converter - indicator starts spinning - then ends claiming conversion cancelled - FAILURE

Work around #1 (transcode before conversion)
1. Open Creator 2009 -> Media Manager
2. Select/View folder containing .m2ts or .mts files (i.e. navigate to the folder where your source video is)
3. Right click a video file -> projects menu ->select "MyDVD Express"
4. At this point you will be prompted to create an editable file - save this new file along side your old file. It will have a .mpg extension. Ignore/close MyDVD it's not needed once the "editable file" is created
4.1 this file is slightly smaller than the original
4.2 renaming .m*ts file to .mpg and attempting to drag/drop does not help
5. Drag this .mpg file to drag and drop converter -> it will convert - SUCCESS

Work around #2 (use video copy & convert)
1. As pointed out by a previous poster, "video copy and convert" is also able to do the conversion process; albeit with a few more steps - SUCCESS

I would appreciate it if anyone solves the drag and drop problem. If you need more details from me please let me know. As it stands I want a refund as the product is not doing what I bought it to do. I have other video editing software that can convert in multiple steps (Adobe Premiere Elements works just fine).
