I have the install problem on Windows XP also. Problem is when I try to do any tips you recommend (I want to repair it bad) I get the message "Unable to read Certificate File". This causes error from the control panel if trying to change or remove the program and says something like "Installation was interupted please try again. I get the same problem when I put the disc in and try to fix it with the auto install. Every time I do anything with it it says "Unable to read Certificate File" and wont let anything happen. This happened after a storm went through about 3 weeks ago and power went off to my pc.

[EDIT]
I've tried the following

Error- Certificate file missing / corrupted / not initialized error after installing EMC7 (Windows XP)

The information in this article applies to:
Easy Media Creator 7

Applicable Operating Systems:
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Professional

1. Fix registry permissions

a. Click on "Start" choose "Run", then type "regedit" and click "OK".
b. In the Registry Editor, click on the "+" next to "HKEY_Local_Machine".
c. Now click on the "+" next to "Software".
d. Right-click on the key (folder) called "Roxio" and choose "Permissions".
e. Make sure that "Administrators" and "System" have checkmarks for "Full Control" - "Allow".( This does not apply in win2000!)
2.
f. If you had to add those checkmarks, click on "Apply".
g. Click on "Advanced".
h. Put a checkmark in "Replace permission entries on all child objects with the entries shown here that apply to child objects".
i. Click "OK".
j. Click "OK" again.
k. Now close the Registry Editor

This didn't help at all. The check marks were in the right place but I went ahead and check the "Replace permission entries on all child objects with the entries shown here that apply to child objects" anyway and it didn't help same problems. Also for more information the installshield wizard after the error says "Welcome to Installshield Wizard for ERROR:Unable to read Certificate File" when I try and install from disc or control panel.

Go into the search (top right on this page) and type in certificate, make sure you select the EMC 7/7.5 in the search where. You will get many hits on this old problem.
