I just ordered a Dell Studio XPS 435MT desktop computer with Vista Home Premium. This computer comes with a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium when it is released around 10/22/09. I plan to purchase Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate for installation on this computer. When I receive the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD, I will upgrade by doing a clean install on the XPS 435MT because it will create a much cleaner install than by upgrading on top of Vista. Since it will be the exact same computer on which I will initially install Creator 2009 Ultimate, will I experience any problem with re-activation of Creator 2009 Ultimate when I reinstall it on the clean install of Windows 7?

No…

Now if you Download it – burn it to disc!!! you only get so many downloads before it locks you out.

I also have Creator 2009 Ultimate and found it will not install on Windows 7. Roxio expects you pay $60 for an upgrade to standard or $80 for Pro. What a rip off. I have only had 2009 for 6 months and now it is useless.

You won't like my answer and I can't blame you but if it's possible for you, add another hard drive or partition the one you now use and install XP so you can dual boot. I actually think it's better to upgrade to Creator 2010 but that's just me.
You can't expect Roxio to do things differently not knowing who will or won't upgrade to W7. Lots of people are happy with their XP or Vista. For those who aren't, they made sure C2010 will work in Windows 7.

Corndale,

I hope you are referring to purchasing Creator 2010 and not Creator 2009.

Creator 2010 was not out, when he posted.
Big_Dave
Well if he bought then we'll probably have another disgruntled user.

I bought Creator Ultimate 2009 a few months ago, and am shocked to find it doesn't work on Windows 7 and that Roxio expects an upgrade fee to make it do so.

In my view, a product called "2009" should at least work for the whole of calendar year 2009.

Am I missing something? I am planning to refer this to my local trading standards team to see what legal recourse may exist. In the UK, I think Roxio's action could be illegal under the Sale of Goods Act.

Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated.

Simon

Actually it isn't illegal anywhere - you have a program that came out well before Windows 7.

You decided to pay MS to 'upgrade' - but you expect Roxio to let you do it for free?

Have you read the Requirements and Specifications? The package lists Windows XP and Windows Vista; Windows 7 is not part of the list. Few months ago, Roxio Creator 2010 came out, about two months before Windows 7 — and one year after Roxio Creator 2009 was released way back in 2008.

Why didn't you get the latest and Windows 7 compliant Roxio software?

By all means, let us know how your law suit goes! smile.gif

BTW: Several had success bringing Roxio Creator 2009 to run on Windows 7, given you install Creator2009SP4 and pxengine3_00_58a after a fresh install and before any attempt to run the application. Others had not been successful. Also be aware that some Antivirus and Anti-Spy/Malware may remove or block essential components and/or Registry entries!

Happy Holidays!

I just got Roxio 2009 and never used it before upgrading my OS to Windows 7. Fortunately I bought the "Ultimate" edition. It has the Windows XP virtual system. So I switched to XP and installed Roxio Creator 2009 there. It works just fine in XP mode.

Can you actually burn a DVD in Virtual XP, Don? I heard it only emulates the optical drive as a ROM rather than a writer.
