I am channging an operating system from Windows XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. I made some data disks as backups using Easy Media Creator 8. Will I be able to retrieve my files by using Easy Creator 2009 in Vista Ultimate? Any help\suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

If you used packet writing *Drag 2 Disc", you cannot retrieve those files without a lot of difficulty, if at all. Did you drag the files to a disc that you formatted? That would be packet writing.

It is best to get the files off those discs and then use Creator Classic (session writing) in either of the versions to make easily retrievable data disc. Those discs can be retrieved on any PC.

I did not use drag to disk. I used creator classic to make the copies. I copied the files from the source area in Creator Classic, them added them to the project area and burned them. I suppose that I could put them on an EIDE hard drive and then use that drive to restore them from. Thanks for the help.

Then you will find a copy of the recovery program, Retrieve.exe on every disc in the set!

Get the new PC, put your discs in and recover your files… Then and only then release your old PC. (I actually hang on to an old one for months to make sure I didn’t miss anything)

Thank you for responding. I usually install a new hard drive and hold onto the old one. This time, school will start before the new hd arrives. I have to have a totally functioning system by Monday evening. That bit of knowledge from you will certainly reduce my setup time after Vista is installed.

Actually the Retrieve.exe will only be present if Classic made a multiple disc project – spanned discs.

If it did not, retrieve.exe will not be there and better yet, won’t be needed.
