I just purchaced Roxio yesterday. I'm trying to burn a photo slide show with no luck. I get to the end where I sellect "BURN" and when the window opens up it won't give me the option to choose a drive. I have 2 installed on my computer. Under the drop down box it says "no disc burners are available" Can someone help me. I have downloaded the lastest drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce. Thanks Mary Lou

Perhaps a Windows error that has been with us since XP…

Go into Device Manager (Win-Pause | Hardware tab) and expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives section and check the Properties of both.

Do any errors show up there?

I just got off the phone with HP. I was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours! The problem is still not resolved. The tech took control of my computer and uninstalled my Roxio and reinstalled. (this is the basic one that came with my computer because it never worked either) He shut down my computer 3 times and restarted it. Went into registreys and I don't know what all. I'm at a loss at what to do. They want to do a complete reformating of my computer! UG! I hate to have to reinstall everything on my computer if I do complete reformate. Anyone have any ideas. Can I get help from Roxio without it costing money? Mary Lou

Did you do what I asked?

What did you find?

You have not ever mentioned any of your PC specs - like I have in my signature...

If you go into Windows Explorer and right click on these drives, select Properties. They should have a "Recording" tab.

Also use the Roxio Home program - Tools - Disc Info.

That will tell us the Make and Model of each drive as well as the Firmware.

Do you have any RW media you can use for testing?

Click on My Computer, then click on Control Panel, then on System, then on Hardware, then on Device Manager.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with my problem of no disc burners available. I have tried everything that you all suggested and nothing worked. The HP tech really messed up my computer and now I'm having to do a complete restore. Roxio plus some of my other programs wont't even open. I'm in the process of doing a back up to a seperate drive I have connected to my computer. I've never done any back ups before so I just followed the wizard in my help files. I'm not that computer literate but not a novice either. I just hope that the back up saves all of my software files that I have bought from the internet as I never have the companys send me a disc because of the extra cost. I just hate the idea of having to reconnect my internet, linksys, printer and all. It takes so long.........
As for my pc specs, I'm running Windows home Vista, my processor is Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU QPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz. Physical Memory (RAM) is 3.00 GB with a 32-bit Operating System. Memory Module is 512 MB DDR2-SCRAM (666 MHZ) My Grafics card is NVIDIA GeForce 8400 G-S. I'm not sure this is the info you wanted. I have no idea what all this means. LOL Everything has been updated to newest drivers and versions. After restore I guess I'll have to get them all over again. Thanks again, as soon as I get up and running again I'll post as to how all is going. Mary Lou

Mary Lou,

No you haven't, you never answered Jim's question about device manager and it showing a error.

It might of been fixed with a simple PXengine download but we will never know now.

Instead you contacted HP, you say HP's tech hosed your pc and now your imaging back to it's backup image...

To get to Device Manager do a right mouse click on MY Computer, select properties and

Click on the + sign next to your CD/DVD device.

Is there a yellow exclamation point by your CD/DVD drives listed in Device Manager?

Yep, and several days ago a PM to her gave her the same information. But she hasn't mentioned if she checked the device manager or not. ??

Yes, in one of my previous replys I downloaded PXengine and did it. Also I said I did everything you guys said to try. I went into device manage and there were no errors. I read all of the help files and links and nothing worked and tried what they said. Maybe I replied back from my personal email and that is why it did not post.??? No yellow excalmation point. Everything was fine. As for my pc specs again, I'm running Windows home Vista, my processor is Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU QPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz. Ok guys I'm still backing up my computer. It is taking forever. I was doing some more reading. I went to Device Manger. I went to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. I clicked and opened it. There are 4 IDE chanels under it. No numbers or anything. Then there is Intel® ICH9 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 2 - 2926. Then, Intel® ICH9 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1 - 2920. That is 6 all together. When I click on the first 2 and go to properties and Advanced settings there is nothing in Advanced Settings. When I click on the third one and go to Advanced Settings the top one is highlighted. Target Id is 0, Device Type is ATA Disk, Current Mode is Ultra DMA Mode 5. The second line not highlighted says the same thing as the first line. DMA is enabled. The 4th IDE Channel is the same as the 3rd one. The 5th and 6th ones (Intel) do not have Advanced Settings.
Anymore ideas so as I don't have to do a complete reinstall? LOL I know you guys are very computer savy. Mary Lou

Does your Device Manager show a CD/DVD device? If no, then a the very top of Device Manager right mouse click on "your PC" and select scan for hardware changes. Now do you see the CD/DVD device?

Hi guys. I just wanted to update everyone on my progress with my Roxio. I did not reformat my computer. I ended up restoring it to August 28th. I then uninstalled Roxio 2010. I went to my computer and my 2 drives were not there. I had to call HP again and they got them back for me in device manager. I then uninstalled Roxio 9 which came with my computer. It never recognized my drives either. I then reinstalled Roxio 9. IT WORKED! I’m now doing a defrag on my computer and will reinstall Roxio 2010. I will post again after the reinstall and trying it out to let everyone know what is going on. Thank goodness I have my laptop. The desktop has been defragging for 12 hours! Thanks again, Mary Lou

Hi everyone. This is Mary Lou again. I just wanted to update everyone to my previous post about no burner available. I had to send my HP computer to Texas and have them fix it. I was having many problems. To make a long story short, I got it back on Tuesday, reinstalled my software including Roxie 2010. I'm glad to say Roxie works just great now. Now I just have to try and learn the program. Thanks to all that tried to help me. Mary Lou

You, more than likely wouldn't have had to send it anywhere, had you listened to ANY of the folks here, who tried to help you.

I don’t completely agree. She reformatted the PC and it didn’t work. Likewise, HP isn’t going to take it back if they don’t think all efforts are exhausted…

But I do agree, it appears she never bothered to answer any question that was put to her or follow any troubleshooting suggestion. That leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth, and if she posts again I will have to weigh that before I waste any time…

Dear grandpabruce and Jim_Hardin
You say I never bothered to answer any questions that were put to me and I never followed through with any troubleshooting. THAT IS NOT TRUE! I answered on Aug. 30th and I believe before that. Let me say again that I tried everything you fellows suggested. Also let me say again that I don't profess to be very literate with the computer and it's workings like you fellows but I'm not a novice either. I have had computers since 1995 starting with Windows 95. I played with my computer for 10 months before getting on the internet. I felt it was important to learn about my computer first and how it worked. I started with an Aptiva which only had 1 gig of hard drive and then upgraded it to 2 gigs. I then went to an Aptiva which had 8 gig. Then I had a Dell 98, then a Dell ME, then a Dell XP and Dell XP laptop, then an HP Vista laptop and finialy an HP Vista desktop. I bought the HP desktop because I was pleased with my HP laptop. That being said, I bought the HP desktop in Jan. of 2008 and had nothing but trouble with it ever since I brought it home from Best Buy. 3 days after I set it up I had to take it back to Best Buy. This is the 2nd time I have had to send it back to HP to be fixed! I had to send it in July of 2008. I have never had to send any other computers I've owned back to be fixed for any reason. I think my computer is just a lemon and not very stable. Also let me say that the only reason I keep getting new computers is that I like to stay up with things. I give my old computers away when I buy new, either to my grandkids or friends. I only had one computer bite the dust and that was my Dell laptop. The mother board went on it. I'm sorry you fellows don't think I tried any of your advice but I did. I installed Roxie 2010 yesterday and it seems to be running very smoothly. I've done a couple of things on it and they came out great. Let me say again, thank you very much for the help you gave me before. Mary Lou
