I had been using 7.5 with good results in label creator. Then I made the mistake of upgrading to EMC 8.0.
Too many problems with label creator so I un-installed 8.0 and re-installed 7.5. I am using windows xp professional. I had the forsight to save the "jwl" files, and they open and everything looks just fine, but when I try to print labels, the colors do not print as chosen and as shown on the screen. Tech support gave a couple of suggestions, which I tried, but they didn't help and they no longer respond to my ongoing problem and questions. I am seriously thinking of scrapping the whole EMC thing and finding another program that will work better.....any suggestions for either a fix or new software are requested. I haver 8.0 on another computer and it gives me even more grief with label creator.

If the colors aren't printing correctly, is there a possiblity that you have some setting wrong in your printer? Or your ink cartridge is running out?

Thanks for the suggestions. I did check ink levels and they are fine. No setting have changed on the printer (hp psc 1350) that I am aware of.
WEll, you asked for a suggestion for new software--I suggest you go to www.neato.com and download their free label making program. It's very simple yet can do just about anything you might want on a CD label, Jewel case, jewel case edge labels, cores and splines color, most all fonts, circular, size and about anything else. If you get the chance down load the version "MediaFace II" not "IV". It's just a lot better.
There are other label making programs out there but I prefer Neato.
I was thinking along the same lines as you were Burce as far as settings in the printer not being correct for what the OP wants. Like setting for grayscale rather than color.

Thanks I'll look into the Neato label maker. As far as the color goes, it prints in color, just not the color/s it should print in. Doing a test color print works as it should, but the chosen color from the "apply template/theme (which is globe) should be a bright blue, but prints out kinds dullish purpley-blue. It used to print just fine with the same printer and version 7.5, but something went away in between version 8 and reinstalling 7.5
I'm not sure if doing a "test color print" can show the identical colors that are on the "globe" bright blue. I still have some thoughts that somewhere in your printer setting things could have happened.

Rarely are they identical. However, what you see on your screen as far as what the color looks like should come close to the color when it's printed. And I think that's what you are describing--?
I really don't think that changing your program from ver. 8 to 7.x or vice versa would change how the printer prints your labels. Hang in there. somewhere along the line we'll figure this out. Sometimes these kinds of problems can really be frustrating.

None of the inserts I have printed look exactly like they do on my monitor. I have tried all sorts of tweaks in Photoshop including changing the mode to CMYK. It might be my printer which is over 6 years old and still going strong - probably because I don't use it often. I won't be getting a new one until it breaks even if it is less than optimum.

I am beginning to think that some setting/s in the printer may have changed after all. I'll try messing with the settings in the next few days and see what happens.

Have you considered that it might be your monitor and not your printer. You might want to try to go through the monitor calibration if you haven't lately. Photoshop has the gamma set up that you can load at start up that helps but you will have to play with that.
If you do a lot of printing, there is a $150 device called Spyder ll that calibrates your monitor. From this, you can calibrate your printer. The $100 device does not have the printer interface. I don't do enough printing to justify buying one.

No....I wouldn't think it would be the monitor. The label colors and design haven't changed and were from a saved "jwl" file. Everything looks as it should and always has on the monitor. I too don't do enough printing to justify $100 or more....but I just don't think the monitor is the problem.....more likely the printer.

On both of my HP printers, under Properties/Color Management, I have imported the color profile of my Sony LCD monitor. You have to set the Color Management to Manual to associate the monitor color profile to the printer, though.

OK.......I now know what was going on. I went to the HP website and discovered how to do an extended self-test report on the printer. It showed that one of the colors was low or almost empty, even though in printer properties it showed plenty of ink. I installed a new color cartridge and all is well. So simple huh?

At least for HP printers, relying on the "full/empty" status is totally unreliable. I have installed a new cartridge many times and it still shows as empty. The only indication I use is when the output goes "bad"
