Hello Alexis,

If you have a look at this ATAPI error codes list
Sense: 03 ASC: 73 ASCQ: 03 shows as a "Power Calibration Area error"

Before a drive burns a disc it writes test burns at different power levels into a special Power Calibration Area on the disc. It then reads the tests back to see which power level worked best. It seems that your drive is having an error trying to do the test.

The suggested checks you should make are shown as paragraphs 4, 5, and 6 at the bottom of that list.
Paragraph 4 tells you how to check and test DMA settings on the drive
Paragraph 5 tells you to check your blank discs, and perhaps try another brand of blank disc.
Paragraph 6 says that if you have tried 4 and 5, then your drive might be faulty. Since the drive has different parts for DVD writing and CD writing, the DVD part can be faulty while the CD part still works.

Good luck,
Brendon

Thanks for help.
DMA and DISC = ok
so the drive might be faulty = what do you mean by "drive" ? Witch drive ?
I did update (or upgrade) the DVD firmware.

should I re-install eveything ?
Should I re-install roxio 10 ? If I try I have only the window with repare and then a window ask me for a package installation dossier witch is located inside the document (roxio 10) I have Uploaded (I don't have a disc installation). So I can't do a re-installation.
What should, or can, i do now ?

Alexis

Hi Alexis,

I tidied your post, since repeating all of mine was a bit confusing.

By 'drive' I mean your burner. That's the device which is reporting that power calibration error to the system.

Your last paragraph is a bit confusing. I gather you bought the download option, which should have resulted in you downloading at least two files, which you installed from. Did you keep those downloaded files?? It is ever so important that you keep a copy of software downloads that you buy, so that if anything goes wrong you can reinstall the software. The first thing to do is to burn that software to a backup disc which you can keep in a safe place, or at least make copies elsewhere on your system. If you didn't keep a copy of them, you might be in a very bad position. sad.gif

I would suggest that
[1] you try a different brand or type of blank disc. Get a good brand. Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims are considered good.
[2] if you have the download files, use a utility like WINRAR, WINZIP, or 7-ZIP to unpack the downloaded files to a folder on your hard drive. Then try a repair and if the Windows installer asks for a particular package or MSI file, point it toward where that package is on your hard drive.
[3] if the repair doesn't fix the problem, your burner could be faulty. However, before you send the drive to a technician [which will cost money] you might want to do a complete clean reinstall of Creator 2010 from your downloaded files on the hard disk.

BUT I am really thinking by this time that the DVD part of your burner is dead [il est mort] and that you need to get a new burner drive. I'm sorry.

Hi Brendon,

Yes I have downloaded Roxio 10, but good you tell me I should have 2 files, because I had downloaded only one !
It's in secure place on my external disc.

1) I tryed already different typr of blank disc. same result.
2) I did use 7-zip to unpack the downloaded files and I will try a repair or reinstall.
3) If it doesn't fixe the problem then I will buy a new burner drive. I have heard that external burner drive on usb is good and not too expansive. What do you think ?

I let you know when all is OK.

Best regards.

Alexis

Please use the correct designation. I believe that you have Creator 2010. There is a Roxio 10 that is a program that is pre-loaded on a computer. That has many limitations. There is also a version that is called Easy Media Creator 10. That program is about 2-3 years old.

External burners will work well enough but a lot depends on your computer. The burner should be connected to one of the USB ports in the back of your computer if it is a desktop and never be connected through a USB hub or extender.

Hi Alexis (and Brendon)
I`m sure Brendon is right in what he is saying about the discs and the burner, but I had no end of trouble with EMC10 and now i`ve got 2010Pro. I had problems wth making DVDs from files on my PC in 2010Pro. They were recorded in Windows Media Centre and converted usig Roxio. When I tried to make a DVD from them I kept getting a message telling me VideoWave had stopped. The screen would often go opaque as well.
I closed it all down, used msconfig to disable everthing in Startup, disabled antispyware and antivirus software, restarted, uninstalled 2010Pro, used the Windows Installer cleanup tool, and deleted everything I could find called Roxio and Sonic.
I then restarted the PC and with everything still disabled I reinstalled 2010Pro from the backup disc- which I`m glad I bought- and it all seems fine now.
It seems to me that Roxio is very good when it`s working, but it`s not very robust and is easily upset!
Hope you find the answer

Alexis has Creator 2010 installed, as he said in his first message and confirmed to me just now in PM.
As we mentioned when EMC 11 was named Creator 2009, "there will be much confusion" and there has been. Alexis does not speak English, so we can't blame him. smile.gif

Anyway, he has Creator 2010, a.k.a. Creator '10, a.k.a. EMC 12 working well on his external drive and he is happy.

Regards,
Brendon
