I purchased Roxio 2010 Creator a few nights ago. My download (with anti-virus and screensaver off) and installation went fine. I WAS ABLE to open up the package and I imported a few clips and played around trimming them just to get the feel of the package. (I've been using MS Moviemaker until now).
After about 30 minutes working in the video editing portion, the program hung up and I had to go to the Task Manager to end the program. When I tried to open the program up again, I got a Roxio Creator dialogue box that said, " Roxio Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. . . . . We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Roxio Creator. . . . " I shut down my computer and restarted to no avail. I called my local tech person and ran this all by him. He suggested I remove the Roxio program and redownload. I removed every roxio, smartsound, sonic, cinemanow program in my program list and spent another couple of hours redownloading the software again. Everything went well but after the 2nd installation, this time the RC 2010 would not even open. The "Roxio has encountered a problem" dialogue box came up from the getgo.
There is hardly any software on my computer. Just MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook and also my database program FileMaker Pro. This is my business computer so really nothing else except pictures and video clips. There was a Nero Essentials package that came with the computer but I even removed that just in case in between the two downloads I did.
My laptop computer is only about 8 months old and has been troublefree. It is a Dell vostro 1510 running Windows XP SP3 Windows 7 Home (I paid extra not to get Vista). It has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 1.8 GHZ. It has 2 gigs of RAM and 160 gig HD with 117 gigs of current free space after loading Roxio's 2 gig program.
Funny thing is: I've been over to the Roxio Creator 2009 forum and three people reported this identical problem on that version. They reported doing everything tech support wanted them to do including several "clean" installs to the letter but to no avail. Now however, one of them just reported the solution 10 days ago, saying he downloaded the latest Service Pack for RC2009 and it cured the problem! Another followed his suggetions and reported it worked for him too "so far." BUT what do we do who have this problem with RC2010? I checked the downloads section and there are NONE for us!
Have you heard of this specific problem with RC2010? How likely is it that can be easily solved? Can I get a refund? I don't want to spend 8+ hours becoming an assistant technician for Roxio. I spent the $100++ dollars with Roxio to avoid having the problems I started having with MS Moviemaker (which doesn't look too bad now). I'd like to just move on if there is no easy fix.
Thanks for listening (I mean reading)
