I am taking a movie from my TIVI and breaking it into chapters but everything is running incredibly slow and locking up. Takes forever to open the movie for editing, sometimes locking, and anyaction takeis way slow...such as movin my position in a timeline, takes over five minutes just to move the marker. Try and run a "split" and it takes over fifteen minutes and may just lock up. I have a 3 GHZ dual core processor with 2 gig of ram, PCIE Nvidea card with 256 meg. shouldn't be running this slow...anyone have an idea of how to fix?

The first thing to do, if you have not done it already, is disable Roxwatch in the desktop tray. It is a useless resource hog. You can permanently disable it via msconfig.

Did you also disable other resources that you have running?

How long is that movie you are trying to edit? In what format is it? How much free hard drive space do you have? Defragged lately?

Yep, I disabled about everything, virus software etc, also set Windows to performance (shutting off all the animated windows and such). The file is aTIVO file which MyDVD converts to DSMD to work with, its about an hour and a half long, 4634 meg. I have two new big SATA drives that are clean, bunches of RAM.

Your TIVO file is highly compressed! A 1 1/2 hour file should be about 6gb if it were mpeg2 @ 9mbps or as much as 18gb were it AVI.

MyDVD does not alter the source file to anything. It does have to unpack the file and move massive amounts of it into the swap file. The dsmd file is merely a series of notes about the project but there is not one single frame of video within that small file.

We really need some specific descriptions of your system, "bunches, gobs, lots, latest, etc. tell us nothing. Also your video card is a key player, so tell us what'cha got in there…

A "normal" flow is to do your editing in VideoWave and the project – dmsm. Then when you are ready to make the output interface, open MyDVD and add the VW dmsm file.

Working with mpeg files slows my 3gb system too. I try to stick to AVI files which are huge but use minimal compression. Things go a lot faster with them.

I don't have any TIVO files, but from what others have said, there are some advantages in using them. Some others may recommend using another editor, like Video Redo with them before using MyDVD to output the actual DVD.
