Everytime I click on a .wav file to open it in Windows Media Player, I get an error message, "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Cineplayer. It looks for a file CP.msi. I can point it to the file, but after about 60 seconds, the configuration process ends. The next time I click on the file, same problem. I can cancel the process and the file plays normally in Media Player, but next time, the same thing happens.

I had this problem with Creator 2009, and now again in Creator 2010. Suggestions? Thanks.

Dell XPS M1330 running Vista Home Premium SP1

I did a complete uninstall of Creator 2009 including all the steps in the link before installing Creator 2010. Same problem. Thanks.

Your association with .wav files needs to be changed to WMP.

If you double-click a file in Windows and it opens in the wrong software program, follow these steps to choose the program you would prefer that file use. You can change this setting for an individual file, or you can tell Windows to open all files of that same type in the software program you choose.

Open the folder that contains the file you want to change.

Right-click the file that you want to change, and then, depending on the type of file, either click Open With or point to Open With and then click Choose Default Program.

Click the program that you want to use to open this file.

    Do one of the following:

    • If you want all files of that type to open in the same software program, select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.
    • If you want only that file to open in the software program this one time, clear the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.
Then you may have to do a clean installation. Do not skip any steps!

I've already run through all these steps. WMP is the default program for .wav files. I've done a complete uninstall following the instructions followed by a reboot and then clean install. Same problem. Thanks.

I ran the Windows Install Cleanup Utility and deleted the Roxio CinePlayer entry. That seemed to solve the problem, and I can still run CinePlayer from my Start menu if I want to. I still don't understand what the underlying problem is, however.
