hi everyone!

got a problem, I did a "go back" on my computer to an earlier date and problem woth my Roxio 7 popped up saying I cannot download the newest version Roxeo 10 because I have to uninstall the 7.5. I did this and it still has some files somewhere on my hard drive, one being shellex.dll 1607 scripting runtime error problem authentication and finally cannot validate certificate! I have tried everything I know to delete this file with no results... I think it has to do with the uninstaller is gone and I need that but cannot find it on the roxio site.
I purchased the newest version 10 and have had it for three days with no luck downloading it. can someone e-mail me and give me some ideas on this problem? I am a newbee with this stuff but I learn fast. thanks Ric

I cant see how you can have the 'newest' version as EMC10 is at least two YEARS behind th current version (EMC 2010)

Follow the 'clean install' procedure laid out in the pinned post

Ric,

Firstly, it might pay you to change your screen-name so it doesn't show your email address to the spam-robots.

Secondly, this "go back" you speak of. Was it an ordinary Windows revert to an earlier restore point, or did you do it with Adaptec GoBack > Roxio GoBack > Symantec GoBack ? If it's the commercial program can you use it to select a date when this trouble wasn't there?

Thirdly, rather than trying to "download the newest version Roxeo 10" are you really trying to INSTALL Creator 2010 ?
Do you have the download files safely down and saved to your hard drive somewhere [or preferably several places]?

unsure.gif Hi Brendon, yes good advise, I will change my screen name soon, yes, I reverted to an earlier restore with windows as I had two programs I wanted to get rid of that just wouldn't go away. when it booted up roxio 7.5 was damaged somehow and part of the program was missing, it keeps telling me it is unable to find a certificate file, could not open the certicate reading file DLL. yes I have roxio 2010 but that will not install until I get rid of the old 7.5 evidently and my add and remove programs says fatal error during installation. frustrating as I think the problem is I somehow lost the uninstaller that came with the CD and it will not even let the disc run to be able to re-install it..sheeesh i (obviously) am not a computer wiz but everything I have tried, like trying the safe mode did not work, and since I did this earlier restore, I cannot undo, or go back any date now.
whats up with that? I defragged, scan the disc and the computer is windows XP professional laptop that is not old, tried the Geek squad, they laughed and said it was a software problem and to leave it and they would reinstaul XP. that is not nessasary I do not think. if you can help me with this problem I would indeed be grateful
Brendon thanks for the your time also! Ric

Hi again Ric,

HERE is the clean uninstall proceedure for earlier versions of the Easy Media Creator suite. I think it would be much easier for you to repair the problem with this, rather than taking the RamboGeek approach and burning down the whole village [Windows] just so you can build a new one.

It's labeled "Clean Installation of Creator 9 & 10 in XP", but as the first paragraph says, "How to perform a clean install for Easy Media Creator versions 7.5 and higher on Windows XP. " Please excuse the name confusion, but Sonic/Roxio are very good at confusing users at present.

Anyway, if you follow this proceedure as closely as you can you should be able to remove the fragments of your 7.5 which are preventing Creator2010 from installing. You might find it useful to print the article out and work your way carefully through it. It should be a lot quicker and easier than having to wipe the HD, reinstall Windows, and then find and reinstall all your favorite applications again.

Please report back about how you go.
