Ok so I have a dvd project that I want to send out in 4 formats

wide ntsc dvd

wide pal dvd
standard pal dvd

blueray.

the input files are mainly from a sony handycam outputting blueray with .m2ts extentions.

so i made projects of each chapter with .dmsm ext with the videowave (roxio v10 standard ed)

and then put them together with the myDVD features.

when it came time to make a image .iso disk of thsi I always get errors.

SO a work around. I made DVD mpeg2 (best quality) files of each chapter.

and then used myDVD to make an image copy of this. Its much faster since the format conversion is done already and ..... it works!!!!

so now the questions.

when makeng the mpeg2 you have the choice of ntsc, pal or both. Should I use the both feature??

Then I would only have to make the mpeg2 files twice. once for standard format and once for wide format.

then I could make the PAL standard and wide as well as the NTSC wide from these two groups of files.

IS this correct approach?? if you can make one file for PAL or NTSC can you do the same at the DVD level?? so then I would only have to make a wide and standard version that works with both pal and ntsc??

once all is done I will then make the blue ray version which will take forever on this computer.

Really like to know what the error message was ~ seems like the thing to fix…

My feeling is NTSC or PAL is irrelevant until the actual burn (file or disc) is made. I would also consider keeping everything in NTSC since virtually all PAL Players will read NTSC too.

Also Blu-ray only comes in one flavor – BD!

Wide Screen or Regular – interesting???

First think about MyDVD for a moment…

Strong plus here is that in 2010 MyDVD allows you switch between BD-DVD-AVCHD at the click of a mouse. So one Project now fills many needs!

Likewise if you really do need to use NTSC & PAL, a button click there will suffice to make the change.

The 4:3 or 16:9 setting in there only effects the MENU! Nothing else.

The “movie’s” ratio is controlled by its’ source! Either the source files from your camcorder or the VideoWave Project you make.

Since your source is 16:9, I be inclined to make them all Widescreen and never look back.

This is kind of general but if you want to explore deeper, all of us are willing to explore with you. You do realize that people have been answering the Topics you start, but you never come back to them… You are starting to look like a Click and Run poster???

You are posting in Creator 2010 but state you have "roxio v10 standard ed"
Which is it? There are 2 years and versions difference.
You can't combine NTSC, PAL or whatever on one DVD. Why "Standard and wide" versions?
Also avoid putting so many blank lines in your posts, it makes it hard to read and covers to much "screen space"

This is all interesting info !! Pal dvds will play ntsc! hey I would love not to have to deal with this. Im sendind the video to the UK and Tanzania, safari stuff lol. as for the wide/standard only effects the menus explains alot when Ive been looking at the video!!!! save a few quetstion from someone who is TRULY uneducated in this.
Sorry for the version mix up I have Creator 2010.
The error i was getting was 8004520c also I think this program leaves some system resources messed up because I find things run faster and with less crashes ( especially when doing computational work like format conversion and disk ico creation.) if I reboot the system first. Athalon 3200 XT OS sp3. nvidea 6.
What I like about this approach is that it allows MUCH faster ico creation because I assume that since Ive already created Mpeg2 movie files this step is skipped!!!! Ive created the DVD ntsc format and it looks a works great.
I know that blue ray is only well blueray, not pal, widescreen blah blah..... I hope this becomes a standard quick to avoid all this stuff. I will do this last for myself:>>
The reason for the standard format is that Tanzania gets all the old equiptment and so they have regular monitors not flat screens and wide scrren on these looks really small.
Sorry for not answering the other board messages I will do it now. I have been in the computer SW programming biz for about 30 years and I have to say the support ion this board is as good as ive ever seen!!! thanks soo much!!!

So for anyones interest who may be createing pal and ntsc format dvds here what I did and it works well, its quick, and it allows for easy debugging of any other probs with your DVD production.

Based on Roxio 2010

For the movie of each chapter I use the videowave app. when I have what I consider the final version of a chapter I use the ouput --export as function to create a dvd ready mpg2 file. I select Both for the movie format and I normalize the sound.

When all the chapters are done I use MYDVD app to put it all together into a DVD. Then under File---Project settings I make sure to set the format standard to NTSC and agian I set the normalize sound.

I burn to a image .ico file and test it with Roxio CinePlayer if thats good I burn to disk. Then I just change the format standard to PAL and repeat the process from there!
