Full Version: "compression error" when attempting DVD compilation
Roxio Community > Macintosh Applications > Toast 10

I put two Video_ts folders in the list area after choosing DVD Compilation. I then hit the record button. The next thing I see is a message that says "problem with compression" and it shuts down the compilation....

This happens whether I try to compile directly from the dvd's or if I copy the video_ts folders to a hard disk and then try to compile.

The Total time of both pieces of video is less than 25 minutes, so I don't understand why any compression is involved.

Any ideas?

I haven't tried that feature. I do have a workaround but before you try that see if it helps to uncheck the box next to Use Fit-to-DVD video compression.

The workaround is to choose DVD-Video as the format. Choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. You can use the media browser to find VIDEO_TS folders on the hard drive or an inserted DVD. Drag the videos you want from the media browser to the main window. Now you can create a DVD from the multiple sources and have a menu as well.

Thanks for the reply.. It seemed like every variation I tried in Toast 10 gave me the recompression failure.... I will try again and I will uncheck the Fit To.... selection.

I did finally get the job done by converting the video TS folders to mpeg2 files with another utility and then using DVD-Video in Toast to burn the two videos onto one DVD.

It wasn't a critical job but I really don't like that I had to go so far around the block and comprimise the video to get it done.

Thanks again,

Using the Media browser to access the videos that are within the VIDEO_TS folder accomplishes the same thing as what you did for a workaround. There is no compromise to the video doing it this way because the video files remain in their MPEG 2 format and no re-encoding is required.

The VIDEO_TS compilations feature is something I've wanted to test out. It is a time-saver compared with extracting video before burning, so it would be nice if it always worked.
