I loaded EMC 7 on a fresh install of Windows XP Pro (has all of the updates).
The EMC 7 application home page will open but none of the applications will start when i click on them.
If I wait about 20 seconds the home page closes. I can however start the applications from start/programs/roxio and then select the one I want to use.
This is very weird.
Any Ideas?

Sounds like a bad or incomplete install. Try a repair install and see what happens. Also, do a thorough spyware search to be sure no nasties are in the way.
