Has anyone else run into the following errors during a Disk Copy:
"Invalid parameter." [0x00000004]
ULONG: Error Number = 00000004
STRING: Error String = Invalid Parameter
I am running version 8 (805B30B ENU).
I have a Dell Dimension D51
P4 - 3GHz
1.0 GB RAM
Win XP Home - SP2 (All Updates)
DVD Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B
Firmware: E112 (Newest Available)
Disk Used = Verbatim DVD+R DL (MKM 001)
Yes, I have Defraged my drive. No, I was not running any other programs.
I have not had any problems with DVD +Rs..I cannot Copy on +R DL.
I can do everything else with this sofware, but burn onto a DL disk.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
IN SAME BOAT
I had exactly the same error messages when trying to burn about 800 mb of data to make a backup DVD. And I found one solution, though have not yet figured out the actual cause. Hope it helps you.
MY COMPUTER SYSTEM TYPICAL
I have a fairly powerful Dell Dimension with lots of RAM, all the other top features, and Windows XP Pro fully updated to current as of Aug 2006. A DVD ROM and DVD writer came with it and I picked up a good USB DVD writer (Plextor PX-716UF). A good system; I would imagine fairly typical compared to other users. I was using EMC 8. I have burned a lot of discs, including DL, with no problems before.
DETAILS OF MY PROBLEM
I ruined about 4 DVD discs trying to burn a backup data disc with about 800 mb of data. I split the data into one half that had relatively few folders and the other half that had lots of folders. I was able to burn the data half with fewer folders. Roxio EMC 8 did warn me a couple of the file names were too long and gave me an opportunity to shorten the file names, and then the disc burned with no problems. But I got the same error messages when trying to burn the data half with many folders, whether on a DVD or CD. This half of the data was a little unusual in that it had almost 10 times the number of folders than files - about 5000 files and 50,000 folders. (I had designed a filing system based on client names with about 10 subfolders to hold specialized types of information.) I did wonder if the file system for CDs and DVDs could not handle so many folders. I did not get any warning messages from Roxio EMC when it was checking the project, but did not expect any file name or folder name problems as this half of the data had fairly short names. To experiment and save actual discs, I subsequently tried writing to ISO disc image files. I got the same error messages when writing to an ISO image. Tried looking up the specific error messages listed, but could not find out what they mean either in the Roxio website or with a general web search. That was frustrating - if they have designated an error with a name (and it's only #4 - well "0x00000004", you think they could tell us what that means.
NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS
Just to experiment, I tried burning the same data half with Roxio EMC 6, which I bought a couple years back. Roxio EMC 6 burned the ISO image and then the disc with no problems. So at least a quick fix is to use Roxio EMC 6 rather than EMC 8. By extrapolation, I would think it likely that some other DVD/CD burning software program would burn properly and not give those error messages you received with EMC 8. I also have EMC 7, as a slight less featured version that came with a scanner, and have not yet tried EMC7 with the same data.
Hope this solution may help you and others with the same problem.
