There are three versions of EMC 8: Essentials, Standard and Deluxe. The version is printed on the box and the discs. If it doesn't say Essentials or Deluxe, then you have the standard version.
If you could have recorded to the hard drive, it would have been a little easier. You must first get the TV program from the DVD to your harddrive. First, try using Media Import.
Insert DVD into the computer drive
Run Media Import
Click on VIDEO Tab
In the drop down list, select the drive and the video(s) on the disc will be listed.
Select the movie
Select the output format. Since the disc is MPEG, I would suggest changing that to MPEG.
Select WHERE you want the file. It defaults to My Documents/My Video
Change the prefix if needed
Click IMPORT NOW
If for some reason, this process fails. You can try copying the VOB files form the disc to your hard drive and rename the extension to MPG. This works for some, but not for everyone.
Once you have the movie on the hard drive as a MPEG file, you can then use it in Videowave to remove commercials or edit as you wish. You then move on to MyDVD 8 to design a DVD menu, mark the chapters, etc., and then burn to file, folder or disc.
Thanks so very much. I have determined that I have EMC Suite Version 8. I downloaded it from Roxio. I did not get a disk. In hindsight I wish I had ordered it on disc because with a disk I could do a repair of EMC 8 if I needed it. I can't do a repair from the downloaded file. I can, however, uninstall and reinstall and that fixes things.
I really appreciate your help and intend on trying that out tonight. Thanks again for great advice.
