I'm clearly missing a key step. I've tried taking the final product from video wave, then using mydvd; I've tried capturing and completing everything in mydvd - everything has the same result. I can Preview the movie, menu options all work, music and transition all good. I can validate project - all good. Yet, when I click the "burn dvd" during the burn process the "preview encoding movie" and the final result of when menu option is clicked - the movie "portion" is either black or looks like a test screen. Menu options and sound tracks all function on DVD. Please someone clear up the mystery - I need to finalize this wedding video.

Can't address the "black" screen but "test" screen indicates it is rendering a compliant video clip, which is a real time saver.

No - the preview shown during encoding is the exact same garbage I get when I go to play the dvd. Like I mentioned, up until the "burn" process, everything works and looks good.

Try the Burn to File rather than actually burning a DVD disc.
This will create an ISO file. Open Disc Copier and select the ISO file. You can preview it at that point.
If it looks good, use DC to burn the ISO to disc.
If not, list your PC specs, including video card. Then list your project settings and outline the steps you take.
Also where did the source files come from?

Intal 4 CPU 2.60GH, 512 RAM. I'm clueless how to find info on video card.

Create new production 16:9 (default production settins) Solid color black, 29.97 pfs (NTSC) default still image 5.0
Add Photo/Video (select files that video was captured/saved)
Videos shown in timeline. Can edit, preview, add music
Save as project "testing.dmsm" on same external drive
OPen MyDVD 8
Click Add New Movie (get external file testing.dmsm)
Click validate project - all good
Click preview - all good
Burn to disk

REady to burn
Capacity of current disc: 4700 MB
Est size of project: 327.5 MB
Disc Label: MYDVD

I think he meant the Video files which you answered from Panasonic Camcorder via firewire. Since you captured via firewire, did you select DV AVI as the file format or MPEG2? If you captured to MPEG 2, then MyDVD would probably show a 'grey' box with MPEG word instead of a preview.
But if you captured to DV AVI, you should see the entire movie being encoded. Since you say the preview is BLACK, then somethnig is wrong.

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 is what appears under Display Adapters.
Saving from camcorder as DV AVI - not mpeg.
I tried moving everything to harddrive. as I'm only capturing 1-2 minutes of video until I get this resolved. Got the same results as when I had video and working files on external.
I had an FX5200 before and it worked fine. Please make sure you have the latest nVidia drivers and the Jun 2006 update to DirectX.

Wahoo! Upgrade Video and Direct X. I was very hopeful when I didn't get the test screens in myDVD....tears came to my eyes when I played the burned DVD and everything worked....even the 16:9 aspect (which was the whole reason why I bought this software). Here's hoping I don't run into anything major when I put together the actual movie (with more than 2 minutes of test video). Thank YOU! from both myself and the wedding couple.
