[font=Book Antiqua] I've just started using Videowave. I feel like I've absorbed a lot while editing my current project the last couple of weeks. However, there are a couple of basic things I still haven't figured out how to do.
1) FADE TO BLACK -- I simply want to fade up or fade out of either a still photo or clip. I see lots of fancy transition effects, and the overlays, but not this. Can it be done? (I don't have the Deluxe version.)
And speaking of black, I also tried to find a way to put white titles over a black background. When I couldn't figure this out, I created an image file in Microsoft Picture It 7 that was all black. I used this, but it was time consuming to create the file. Was there another way to get a black screen?
2) INSERT VIDEO -- I have a clip that I want to use with its native audio. Now I want to periodically intercut some pictures and other footage but keep the native audio throughout the whole initial clip. Can this be done?

I can answer your first question, and hopefully someone else will drop in to answer the others. I have to go out for awhile.
Insert a black panel where you want the fade to black, then use a dissolve transtion between the black panel, and the photos before and after. You will have to set the time that you want to have the black panel stay open, though.

Bruce suggested solution to item 1.
For item 2, my idea is that this can be accomplished through the use of overlays in Videowave. I don't have a good description of it at the moment but you may want to search on this forum.
Yes, that would be the easiest way. Insert the still image or second video as an overlay and let it cover the entire viewing area.
My very first reaction to VW was negative, precisely because it does not offer a simple fade-to-black option (or fade-up-from-black). But yes, using the dissolve to and from a black panel works, even if it requires more steps than it ought to.
I think you indicated you were uncertain about how to get the black panel in the first place. If you right-click over a scene, one of the choices you see should be to insert a color panel (black being one of the choices). If it ends up in the wrong place, just switch to storyboard view if you're not already there, and drag the black panel to where you want it.

In Videowave,
1) Left click an empty frame
2) Right click and choose Insert Color Panel. Choose the color you want and press OK
3) In the Media Selector window, select Text icon (between Transitions and Overlays icons); will show various text formats. Drag the Basic White format to the panel you selected in step 2 above.
4) The Text Editor window comes up. You can now type the text you want.
