I used Video compilation and burned to disc. I noticed that the process shows "Initializing the recorder" at the start of the burning process. What exactly does it do?

When I tried to play the burned disc using Sonic CinePlayer, I got the error message "There was error initializing the video stream". Before EMC9, CinePlayer was doing good -- playing both commercial and home-made DVDs.

The same burned disc and home-made DVDs play good using the Cyberlink PowerDVD.

Something went wrong after the EMC9 installation? Has this got something to do with the DirectX issue raised by MTolman?

I honestly don't know Jess and I don't see the 'initializing' message but maybe it does it much faster for me and goes right by. I can only guess based on the literal words that it's sending the disc read info to the recorder or something to that effect.
So this completed dvd does play ok with PowerDVD but not with Cineplayer?

Also, are you telling us something did go wrong after the installation such as an error message or asking if it's possible that something went wrong?

I hardly ever use Cineplayer and am a big fan of PowerDVD. Yes it should work but if they play fine in other players, it's not your dvd but the software. Maybe a repair install would help.

Per one of our Roxio Moderators--
"CinePlayer 3.2 is included in EMC 9 and was originated from Dell Media Experience. There should be 3 short cuts in My Media folder if you have a clean install of EMC 9".

Start--All programs--Roxio EMC 9--My Media.---There should be a CinePlayer there to use.

There are quite a few that never use CinePlayer for viweing a DVD. I mainly use WinDVD or Power DVD and have had several problems with CinePlayer. When you installed EMC 9, did you get a registration notice for CinePlayer ??

I don't use Cineplayer in v9 either, I also use PowerDVD instead. It works much better for me. Cineplayer/Media Experience has not been a good "experience" in v9 at all for me. While ME will load quickly, using the "DVD" choice, or loading Cineplayer by itself, will take anywhere from 6 to 9 minutes to open where I can play a disc. The only positive is that it will play, it just takes "all day" to get to that point (ok ok, exageration intended ).

No Problem Jess---If you continue to use CinePlayer for viewing, let us know how you like it compared to other software players. From what I can tell on the forum, there are very few that are using it and prefer other players. BTW, I didn't know there was a different registration for the EMC 9 CinePlayer, especially if you had it registered before.

Just an update regarding the "There was error initializing the video stream" issue I reported.

After doing the steps for the DivX codec problem pinned in this forum, the old CinePlayer version (pre-EMC9) I have is back to work.

Hmmmm...as for me, it does not take that long for my PC to load CinePlayer in EMC9.

When you installed V9 didn't it ask you to uninstall your previous version of Cineplayer?You're not supposed to use the 2 different versions of Cineplayer on the same machine.

I only have PowerDVD, Windows Media Player and CinePlayer (2.01). These are old versions. I've always used CinePlayer. I would say that the current version in EMC9 is much better; I just don't like the "wrapper" that Roxio used for it; it looks more like for a video game with big fonts for text and huge icons/objects.

I think there were two check boxes suggested to be uninstalled. One that I remember well is Roxio EMC 7. I forgot the other one. I opted to retain EMC 7 (which is 7.5 actually). Nothing about CinePlayer.

By the way, I don't have EMC8 installed at all when I installed EMC9, if that makes a difference at all.

A similar issue regarding "Initializing recorder" is given here in this KnowledgeBase article. Same app (DiscCopier) but for video folder instead of movie.

I encoded the same 42 minute avi file to a video folder and to an ISO file. On 3 consecutive tries, rebooting in between, the video folder did not complete the burn. It stopped at 97%, 96% and full but on the full, it did not actually say it was complete and eject the disc as it is supposed to. 2 played ok in my computer dvd drive but were not complete and also in my standalone. 1 didn't play at all. The 2 that did play, did not have a menu and simply started the movie when inserted.
The ISO burned complete and correct the first time and plays fine in all players. I usually prefer the ISO method and rarely use the Video folder output but I wonder it there is a problem with this in 9.
I'd be interested in how others have faired with the Video folder method.

Cineplayer, reminds me of RealPlayer a intrusive piece of codec take over, machine take over, piece of Crap!
Why one would use this or install it is the question. CL Power DVD and WinDVD is the way to go, compared to this Crap-Ola- Piece of software.
And yes Paul I'm telling it like I see it!

This is not exactly the same scenario but to check out the issue you raised, I used a 30 second mpg, put it to MyDVD and burned both methods: ISO and Video Folder. Both burned successfully and played back ok.

Jess, I want to play around with this more but I have a feeling my avi file was not in the best of shape. So, back to the lab.
