Would appreciate any help or advice. Please keep in mind I am not a "techy", so please forgive me if I sound like an airhead.
I just got EMC8 and a DVD burner a couple of weeks ago. For kicks, I decided to burn some web & photo files I kept stored on a non-bootable slave drive to a DVD try out EMC8. Instead of making a data disk, I saw the "Backup files" option and used that.
Two days later, I have a catastrophic hard drive failure on my main bootable drive. Not a big deal...it was small and old and I had the security of knowing all my important stuff was backed up on my slave drive. Well, in the process of installing my new bootable hard drive, I did not notice in my haste that my motherboard changed the drive letter sequences. So as I was going to format what I thought was my new C:/ drive, I was really formatting my old D:/ drive! Needless to sy, I am devastated.
Okay, so I now have my system all up and functioning, most peripherals and programs reloaded onto my new drive. I pulled out the DVD I had made last week using Backup. Backup Disk & Device Utility shows two folders: $BAK001$ and $BAK002$. I can access $BAK002$ and have transferred those files back to my slave drive, but they are a small portion. The stuff I really need is in $BAK001$.
When I try to retrieve ANYTHING from $BAK001$, I get a pop up saying "Error reading file". It does it for every file in $BAK001$.
I tried downloading the free trial at www.cdroller.com and it also could only read $BAK002$.
Anyone have any other suggestions? It looks like the file exists?! Lord, I hope the files are there!
