Hi there,

After downloading and installing EMC 8 Home Suite, I tried to create a DVD+R DL. However, the only result I get are an error message and a ruined DVDR.

First of all my system, which is a XP Pro SP2 with a Plextor PX-755A (Firmware 1.05). First I considered it to be an old drive firmware (1.00) hence I upgraded it today to 1.05. However a fourth DL DVD+R got ruined.

The media used is from EMTEC. Although it is suitable for 8.5 GB, EMC8 only seems to see 8GB ( )

The problem results in the following message:
"There was a problem reading data fast enough to your Recorder. Click Retry to have Creator 8 Suite Home try to recover from this error. You will need to have another blank disc ready."

What am I missing here ???

The message is fairly self explanatory. Whatever the source is that you're recording from can't keep up supplying data to your DVD writer.

So, if you're copying from another DVD, then whatever drive you're using can't read that disc fast enough. The solution would be to copy all the data to your HD before writing it to DVD.

If your data is already on your HD, then your drive could be fragmented badly, which can seriously degrade the speed of accessing data. Two things can be done, defragment the drive, and slow down the writing speed.

Where did you get that media? I have never heard of it.

Nope. Never heard of EMTEC. I have used Ridata (Ritek), until their media went south about a year ago, and I never got it from Meritline, because Newegg was always cheaper.
