I've made several attempts to try and install Easy Media Creator 9, download edition, and each time, it returns a small dialogue box with error 03F2.80070005.

Can someone from Roxio help me with this?

Thanks,

Grant

This post says an updated windows installer helped with the problem.

I am looking to make a KB article out of this. What is the easiest way to get the installer, download it directly from microsoft (I found a link myself) or do you recommend windows update?

Hi John.
Most people dont like updating for just the sake of updating with the online update utility as they get other fix's they dont want or need, and its easyer just to download it from a link and its done, but they are my own thoughts.....

I am getting the same erro code. My installer is current per Microsoft's web site. Any help from Roxio? Their self-service system provides no help on this.

I had this problem too. I looked at the event viewer and saw that Windows Defender was preventing the installation. I went to Services and stopped Windows Defender and the install worked without error.

Cool, thanks for the extra info. I will see if I can get that added to the article.

Thanks to ghaavy for posting this. I had the same problem, and guyndenver's answer fixed my problem. Thanks guyndenver!! You saved me hours I'm sure biggrin.gif .

For those not familiar with how to stop the Windows Defender Service, here's how to do it (at least in Win XP):

Right click on My Computer
Click Manage
Click Services and Applications
Click Services
In the Services window on the right, click on Windows Defender
Click Stop the service (to the left side of the right window).

Hi Just as quick note as this may help this problem doesnt occur in Windows Vista RTM x32 but does occur in Windows Vista RTM x64, the fix of disabling Defender works to resolve the problem however.

Also quick chance to say many thanks to Roxio, Easy CD Creator 9 has worked from Vista RC1 to RTM without a hitch!.

For me even on Vista Ultimate 32bit RTM bits, I needed defender turned off to make it get past this error.

I have the same problem trying to reinstall EMC9 on XP. There is no service named Windows Defender. Help!
gi7omy
Defender is a MS anti-spyware/AV application which is part of Vista

In the case of XP, turn off ANY background appl - messenger, anti-virus, spyware and try again

You dug up a thread that was started over 3 years ago and has been dead for over 2-1/2 years! Did you try the solutions that were presented in the various posts?
