Help! I haven't been able to install EMC 9. I've taken off IE7 and disabled the anti-virus and firewall and defraged the registry.

The program gets about halfway installed and then gives me the error message saying it could not open the key Local Machine\Software\Classes\.jpe

Any ideas? It did install the Roxie disc copy program - should I remove that? How about deleting the JPE entry from the registry and letting EMC 9 recreate it?

I've tried to install it three times - and even created a new profile, but nothing helps.

I have a Gateway Notebook - only about 4 months old. I have updated all my WIndows software. I also use Kodak Easy Share software - could that have something to do with it? I did have IE 7, but I have rolled back to IE 6.

AMD Turion 64
1 GB memory
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M graphics

Hi Steve, are there any packet CD writing software on the PC? that may have come from the supplier when you got it?
if there is then remove these first, also if you have an application called windows washer on the pc , remove it, as this has been known to cause issues with .jpg issues.
other than that , do a full remove and clean in the registry and then reboot and try again.

Also, what do you mean by doing a "full remove and clean" in the registry? Is that to remove the other CD programs or is it to remove the partial Roxie install (the only program that was installed was the Roxie disc copier.

My question was related to if you had any drag to disk tools for burning on your system, IE: an icon at the bottom tool bar to drag files to burn to a cd or dvd?
as to the other apps you listed id say no unless they do use any D2D (drag to disk) parts.
And answer to the next reply was yes if you can, do look in the registry and clean any old install files from that EMC9 install (if you do , backup the registry first) and clean out any files left by the install under programe files after the un-install, then rebbot and try again

Uninstall the Roxio from the Windows>Start>Control Panel> Add Remove Programs. A window will open and then populate with the programs you have on your computer. Look for the Roxio programs and also for Drag to Disc which will be a different entry and uninstall them.

Cleaning the registry is not for a computer novice. You might try running a registry cleaner. System Mechanic has a 30 day trial. I have used that pretty successfully.

I have the Cyberlink programs and none are packet writing. Power to Go is redundant with the tools in EMC such as Creator Classic and Music Disc Creator. They co-exist with EMC happily. The other two would not be a problem. Packet writing programs require you to format the blank CD before you can drag files to the CD.

looks like a permission issue for your account... have you tried to create a new user account with Admin right and try to install in the new account?

Ok folks, I have been working on this for over 10 hours over several days - and still it only gets half way to installing and I get the same error message 1402. Of course, it still installed the Drag to Disc program and refilled my registry with the Roxie settings again.

I have done everything you have suggested. Cleaned out the registry, deleted programs and even made a new Profile to log on with (oddly, when I created the profile all the old Roxie settings returned. The Roxie settings were ONLY in the NEW profile, my regular profile still shows no Roxie settings)

I have since deleted the new profile and still my regular profile showed no Roxie - so I thought I was safe and installed the program once more - same thing happened.

I did a search for the word Roxie in ANY file and found a couple - the mouse inf file and Windows\I386 directory - the file is NTCOMPAT.INF. I found these references AFTER doing all of the other clean and delete processes.

SOLVED THE PROBLEM - returned EMC9 back to the store. They were very good about it, I honestly did not expect them to take it back, but I showed them a print out of what I had done from this Roxio forum. It convinced them that I had never been able to install it and that what Roxio was asking users to do was way beyond the common installation fixes.

Sorry guys - this software just seems to have way too many install problems and has too many compatiblity issues (and then poor operating performace). When average users have to edit their registry to install it, there is a problem with the software.

Best of luck with future upgrades. I think your position as a leader depends on how well you fix the problems with ECM9. I will hoping you release some major patches. Until then, I will search for an alternate program - perhaps one that does not promise so much.

our software does not require the user to manually edit the registry to be installed properly... As I mentioned above, it's a permission issue during the installation... either the account does not have the permission to modify certain registry keys or some software installed is preventing those keys being modified... also, the key "Roxie" has nothing to do with us...
