    CD Writing Wizard

I have talked to several freinds of mine and they say their device manager looks the same. The drive does not show up in th IDE channels. The drive seems to work ok. Yes it shows in the BIOS and in the register. I did learn how to update the register so that the system knows it is a recordable drive. I now have a recording tab where I can turn on desktop cd burning. Only problem is that XP does not see when I put a cd in. Keeps saying to insert a cd. So, turned that off and just use Roxio Drag to disc and so far so good. Not really sure if there is a problem or not. As long as it works...lol Thanks for your help.

Yep, it shows as a different type drive, but according to Sony support that is ok. Under SCSI it only shows Gigabyte GBB36X Controller When i look at devices by connection it does not show the dvd drive. Just for kicks I bought another drive (LITE-ON) and got the same results. I disabled the one storage controller just to see if it made a difference.

I have 2 primary and 2 secondary IDE channels. For both secondary it shows "not applicable" for current xfer mode. It is the same for the first Primary IDE channel. In the second primary channel it has "ultra DMA mode 5" for device 0 and N/A for Device 1.

Larry, It seems that XP Desktop CD burner only recognizes CD burners. not DVD. I installed Roxio Creator 9 and everything seems to be working ok. Again, thanks for your help.

Microsoft KB? Knowledge Base? Would using DLA resolve the problem? Sounds like basically the same thing.

Yep, have the lates updates. Deleted the drive and let XP install again. No difference. I called Sony (I have a DRU-120C) and they say it is a windows issue. The cd software does not recognize the drive. I can burn ok with it thru nero. Any other suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

Hey Larry, Thanks for the reply. I was able to turn the feature on on my second pc. But on my 3rd (the one I just built) there is no recording tab when I look at the properties. Something wrong I assume?

    CD Writing Wizard

Hello, On one of my pc's I have a Lite-on cd/rw drive. I have no type of cd burning software installed, but I can still click and drag files to cd-r discs, create folders, access the cd like a drive, etc. It works almost like DLA. When I drag a file to the cd drive a window comes up called CD Writing Wizard, which then burns the file to the cd-r. At the bottom of the window, it notes that this software was created under license from Roxio. I have 2 other pc's with different type burners/drives and they do not have this function. As stated earlier I do not have DLA or any other burning software installed. So, how does the pc act as though something like DLA is installed? A feature of the Lite-on drive? Something to do with Windows that I can turn on? I am using XP Pro. Thanks
