    Tivo File Transfer

I just purchased NXT 4. How do I get the recordings off of the Tivo and on to my computer?
  3. I recently upgraded from NXT 2 to NXT 3, but no longer can convert TiVo files. I get an error that the files are DRM protected (see attached "DRM complaint.jpg"), but the only DRM protection on these files is that they came from TiVo and Roxio Creator is supposed to be able to decode these. These files were not copyright protected. As a result, Creator doesn't show any of the files (see attached "Roxio view of folder.jpg"), while the directory actually contains what is shown in "Actual contents of folder.jpg". Has this capability of Creator been dropped? is there some additional step I am missing? The only reason I have been buying Creator is for this feature so if it is gone, I am gone! Stan
  4. I just updated to Toast Pro 14 from 11 and now I can't figure out how to convert Tivo files anymore. Does this no longer work?
  5. Quick question - have a Roamio box by TIVO, the one that is $199. And I have Toast 11 package of apps that includes Tivo Transfer app. Are these two compatible? Tried to make Tivo Transfer to "see" my Roamio box but no success so far. Before I wil embark on some deep troubleshooting spree - are they compatible, and on which Mac OS (if they are)? Thank you so much!

Can Toast 12 Convert *.tivo Files?

I'm considering upgrading from 11 to 12, and while I understand 12 no longer supports TiVo transfer (too bad - although I'll try cTiVo), but my question is will 12 be able to convert .TiVo files (into MP4s, whatever - so that they can be burned to DVD)? TIA, bzander
  7. I have Mac2Tivo and Tivo Desktop installed on my new Mac Mini. Tivo Transfer works just fine, but I can't get my Mac Mini to show up on my Tivo, even though the Mac2Tivo server appears to be running and I have successfully added several video folders (two others have been locked in "Calculating" mode for three days and I can't seem to stop it). Either Mac Mini wont show up on my Tivo at all...or it will with an "!" in front of it and no content listed. When I reboot my computer, the first thing that comes up is this error message: "Roxi Mac2Tivo is in use by _Securityagent. Only one copy can be running at a time. Another instance of Mac2Tivo is already running" Any advice? Lee
  8. I am trying to use Creator 2012 to convert TiVo video to DVD. I have multiple files from multiple channels: CBS, TCM, PBS, Showtime, etc. In every case, I receive the message "This folder contains files protected with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. DRM protected files cannot be added to a project, so they will not be displayed." I e-mailed Roxio support, which responded: "I wish I can be of help but unfortunately, you can't convert it. If Tivo added DRM to the file it can't be copied. You'd have to bring it up with them. The DRM kicks in when you try to convert it. You can watch it on the computer, yes. But you are NOT allowed to copy it. Thank you for understanding. Should you require further assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions." I decided to try a little test. I renamed a WMV file to "TEST.WMV" and put it in its own folder. I opened Creator and pointed the "copy and convert" function at this folder. Creator accepted this file; it was displayed in the folder. I then exited completely from Creator. I renamed the file TEST.TiVo. I then re-opened Creator and pointed the "copy and convert" function at the folder containing the file. This time, I was given the message about DRM even though, clearly, no file in the folder contained DRM. THis tells me that Creator is using the file's extension to determine that it is a TiVo file, even when it's not really a TiVo file. Further, this means that Creator WILL NOT WORK WITH ANY TIVO FILE, even though both Roxio and Tivo recommend the purchase of Roxio Creator to convert Tivo video to DVD. I called TiVO, who had me check my CableCard settings, and they said all was as it should be. I suggested to them that they cease recommending Roxio Creator to convert TiVo files. It clearly will not work. I will now attempt to return the software. Wish me luck.

Toast 11 Only Records Half Tv Show

When transferring 2 tv shows from tivo to iTunes with Toast 11 on my Macintosh only 1/2 of the shows were recorded. I tried again and the same thing happened. I don't know why. The time listed for the tv show was 30 minutes yet only 15 minutes was recorded. Any suggestions? Thank you.
  10. I am using Toast 11.1 with the High Def/BlueRay plug in. I am trying to burn a HD show I recorded on an HD TIVO and transferred with the Toast TIVO Transfer app. I cannot get a DVD that will play, after completing the burning. I have 4 failures, including after I slowed the burn rate significantly. I get this error message: "The document BDMV could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-70166)" (msg attached) I am burning an HD TV show recording onto a HD video DVD. Not Blue-Ray. But the resulting DVD has a BDMV file. Isn't that Blue-ray not HD? It will not play on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.8) nor on my DVD player, which is not Blue-Ray anyway. Suggestions, please. Thanks!

    Trouble Converting Large .tivo Files

I recently purchased Toast 11 Titanium for Mac so I could transfer some non-copyrighted videos from my TiVo as I needed to perform a factory reset of my TiVo box. I have updated to the 11.1 update and then ran the software update again to install the most recent version. I was able to successfully transfer the wanted files using the TiVo transfer application; however, while trying to convert the .tivo files to .m4v using the default settings, I am getting mixed results. Some of the HD recordings are two hours or less (approximately 15 GB or so), and I have successfully converted one of these files, and another appears to be converting successfully as I type this. It was a slow process, but I'll take slow as long as it does the job. However, some of my recordings are exceedingly long, four hours or more (between 20 and 40 GB files). For these, I have been unable to convert them. The process just sits on 0% completed forever. I thought maybe I was just being impatient, so I started a conversion of a 26.85 GB file last night around 8pm and let it go all night. Woke up this morning, 12 hours later, still 0% completed. I thought maybe I could just cut the file into two parts using the Edit function and convert each part separately, but when I click Edit, it just clocks and clocks and clocks, and I eventually have to Cmd-Opt-Esc to Force Quit the program to end the hang-up. I can't even watch the files on the Roxio Video Player without the system hang-up. I verified that the files were not corrupted, because this morning I successfully returned the 26.85 GB file back to my TiVo box and watched the program. Is there a file size limit or something that prevents these files from being converted/edited? Can anyone suggest a solution for how to get these converted?

  13. When I convert a Tivo video to DVD I get no audio. Even on the preview there is no audio before I burn the DVD.

Tivo Not In Setup. Wont Connect.

Just downloaded Toast Titanium 11. It was supposed to ask about the TiVo during the setup process, but did not. I found the TiVo Transfer app in Finder, ran it. Gave it my Media Access Key. Neither of my two TiVo's shows up in the app. I restarted both TiVo's, the Mac and the router, but it still does not show up. No idea what to do from here. Any ideas would be appreciated. Very frustrating. Macbook Pro Retina, OS X 10.8.3. Thanks.

    Tivo Video Disk Snafu

After a couple dozen successful DVD burns, Toast 11.1 now locks up when I try to add a second video file to the disc. I am putting four 1/2-hour shows on a DVD and now I can't get past the first file. When I try to add the second file, the beachball just spins and when I Force Quit, I am told that Toast is "not responding". Any wisdom here?
  16. Hi -- I'm new to Toast, which I just purchased and am using on my Mac. I transferred a lot of 1 hour programs from my TiVo to my Mac and that seemed to go just fine. However, when I try to convert them to play on my iPad, the file in iTunes is significantly shorter than 1 hour. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some setting I should change so that the entire 1 hour video gets transferred? I looked through the forums and saw some mentions of this, but I wasn't sure I saw a good resolution. Can the whole 1 hour program not be copied over? Is there some time limit or something? Any help in relatively straightforward language would be greatly appreciated. I'm not a Mac novice, but do not do a lot with video editing and conversion so simpler explanations would be most appreciated. Thanks, Michelle
  17. Roxio Creator NXT will not burn tivo programs to disc. I have tried two different external DVD drives. Same result each time. Everything seems to be going perfectly, and then it stops at 8%. The program just freezes. Anyone encounter this?
  18. recently bought Toast 11 for Mac to use with my new Tivo Premiere 4. used the Tivo Transfer app that came with it to get a bunch of tv shows off my old Tivo HD so that i can then get to them from my new Tivo via the Mac2Tivo included app. trying to figure out how i can edit the metadata of these ".tivo" files so i can have a better sense of what show is which when getting from the Tivo itself, but cannot figure it out. have scoured google & these forums. only found other old open source programs that i'm nervous/confused about using. i can open these .tivo files in Toast, and click the EDIT option and easily edit the text that goes along with the show (title & episode etc); but then there's no way to just save it back. it makes me export/convert it to something other than what it is. is there no EASY way to just simply edit the meta text of a file without going thru all the conversion & exporting process???

Toast 11 & Tivo Apps Issues...

  20. I just got a TiVo to replace an old generic DVR that had died. I have been able to use Toast 11 Titanium to transfer TiVo recordings to My MacBook which runs OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Something strange has started to happen, though: I find that when I burn my transferred TiVo recordings of "Downton Abbey", they take up about twice as much space on the DVD (according to Toast) as the .tivo files do when transferred to my hard drive. The practical effect of this is that I cannot burn a show longer than 1 hour. This is a problem because some of the "Downton Abbey" shows are 2 hours long. I tried changing the video quality to "good", but that had no effect on Toast's estimate of DVD space consumption. In fact, Toast sometimes seems to not recalculate the DVD space consumption if I remove shows from the list of things to be burned. This is Toast Titanium 11.1 I am using, so I think I have the latest. I'm wondering if there is some conversion process to convert .tivo format to another format for burning, and if there is any way to adjust parameters of that conversion to take up less space. For example, I do not need Dolby Digital sound and would happily scrap that if it would save space.
  21. Hi all I'm new to this forum and really hope that someone out there can assist this this problem. I have searched everywhere and cannot find any reference to this issue. I am using Toast 11 (11.2) to transfer shows from my Tivo 3 to a Macbook Air (10.8.2) then using the Toast converter to change the files into MP4 and add to iTunes for streaming on AppleTV. Surprisingly, it works well for some items, but for others, the conversion process will stop at varying intervals before converting the whole show. It does not seem to have any pattern or be related any particular broadcaster. For example, Parenthood comes into TiVo Transfer at 1:28 but the duration after conversion is 56:46. Another show had a duratiopn of 0:58 and converted at 4 minutes something. Anyone having similar problems or got an idea of how to resolve this? I'm trying to get a Christmas present to my partner working so needs to be resolved quickly!
  22. After burning downloaded movies (Standard Format, not HD) from TIVO, when I try to view them on disc, they all become distorted and hung up around the 50-minute mark. Here are the steps I have taken to try to isolate the problem: 1. After playing the movie on my DVD player, and seeing it get distored and hung-up around 50 minutes into the film, I go back to my DVR and replay the movie to see if the original taping had any distortions. RESULTS: No distortions, films play cleanly on my television. 2. I then re-download the film to my two computers and play them there to see if there are any distortions that result from my downloading them from my TIVO DVR to my computer. RESULTS: No distortions, films play cleanly on my computer. 3. Since all films were coming out distorted, and at the same mark, I then installed Roxio Creator 2012 on my second computer, burned copies of these films on this computer as well. RESULTS: Same as the first computer, images of films get distored and the movies get hung up around the 50-minute mark. 4. I tried uninstalling, then reinstalling the program into the two computers. RESULTS: Same distortions occur at the same place as before. When ready to burn a movie, I always choose the 2-D/DVD/Standard Definition option, and I've used different DVD brands, though always get the same problem. I used to have an old version of a Roxio DVD burining software, and didn't have this problem on either computer, but the program was old and "wore out," the reason for my switch to Roxio Creator 2012. What would be creating this problem? It definitely has to do something with the software. If I need to reinstall the program and customize the download, what should I look for to resolve the problem? What other options should I consider when getting ready to burn a new DVD? It's been very, very frustrating, to say the least.. Thanks in advance for your attention and help to this matter.
  23. Well, I've been looking for this information all around and didn't find anything! That's why I'm openning a new topic... Well, I'm really interested on buying this new Roxio Game Capture HD Pro, though my goal isn't capture games. Actually I have so many vhs tapes that I've been recording since forever and I want to transform them on dvd, it would be nice if I could do that with this product. Also, I have this cable tv, like Tivo system, I can record shows and stuff but they keep locked inside the decoder, it means, I can't transfer them to my computer and make blu-ray discs. So, that's my biggest concern, I know the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro was developed for gamers, though it could be really usefull to my situation! I want an opinion... Did someone already try capture from the cable decoder, from a vcr, or even a dvd? If someone already did such thing and worked fine, definetly I'll be buying this product asap! I know there is a different product to convert VHS to DVD, but I wish I could have just one product that will make everything I need, capturing 720 or 1080! Oh, also, I want to know if it works fine on Macs! Thanks, everyone!
  24. I can no longer convert TIVO files for DVD or portable player. When I select "Movies" in "Copy & Convert Video" I receive a message that states there are files protected by DRM in the folder. The folder display does not show any TIVO files. I have had Creator 2010 since it was released and have converted many TIVO files. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both TIVO desktop and Creator 2010 but to no avail. Anyone have any helpful hints of what might be wrong? I am on Windows 7 64-bit, Dell Precision 3500. Roxio 1.2.193: 5.0.0.0: Build 121B93A, R03; 500b22a, R03. Tivo Desktop 2.8.3(412370)

Unable To Edit Tivo Hd Files?

I just fired up my new TiVo and am overjoyed that I can pull recordings off it into my Mac Mini (mid-2011). However, when I try to edit the TiVo HD files to get rid of the commercials and prepare them to turn them into H.264 files, Toast 11.1 hangs and I have to force quit it. I've only had luck with standard definition files so far. HD files all seem to freeze and hang. Is there anything I should do besides restarting my Mac? Everything else seems to work like a charm. I even checked and updated the software as directed a few hours ago. Still no happiness. Thanks! Jerry
