I'm so mad I could spit nails. The whole Toast experience has been a horror story. It all started when I bought
the app. I was offered a $20 rebate at the point of sale. After filling forms and actual mailing of copies, my rebate was declined. Of course I could not find anyone or anyplace to redress this problem.
Now my house is littered with DVD's that have absolutely nothing on them except the "lead out", whatever that is. It takes me anywhere from 2 to 4 tries at encoding a DVD. The app. crashes about a quarter to 7/8's into the encoding. If I persevere and manage to get the encoding completed I am not out of the woods. I have gone as many as 5 (FIVE) tries to burn a disc. Most of the time the disc will burn to within 99% of completion,
at which point I get an error msg, Toast switches to "writing lead out" and I get a useless disc.
This is the latest string of errors:
       The drive reported an error
       Sense Key=Hardware error
       Sens Code=0x03

       The drive reported an error
       Sense Key=Illegal request
       Sense Code=0x30,0x05
       Cannot write medium
       Incompatible format

I have Toast 7.1 running on iMac G5  10.4.7 1.8GHz and 1GB of RAM and UJ-825

I'm am not sure how to best systematically approach your problem as I am not a Toast expert. BUT do you have recent and consistently successful burns in iDVD?
If not it could be a drive problem.

Yeah, you might also try another brand of media (especially if you are using DL media) and you might also want to see if there are any firmware updates avialble for the drive.
