I just installed EMC 9 and wanted to try out the MyDVD program to create a DVD. I loaded a video in .wmv format and when I clicked on the Edit Movie option, the whole program closed. This also happened in EMC 8, so I have always used Sonic MyDVD Plus to edit videos. I wanted to upgrade that program, but was directed to the Roxio site. Below is my system info. Thanks for any help on this problem.

I don't have a solution for you, but are you sure you have only 100 MB available out of 1000 MB? What's using 900 MB of memory? Try looking at the numbers again immediately after a fresh reboot.

For comparison I have AV and 3 memory hungry programs running right now and I have 1 GB free out of 1.5 GB.

When I checked again, I have about 450 MB out of 1000. What can be done to increase the amount of free physical memory?

Thanks for your help.

Well, you're welcome, but this may not have anything to do with your original problem. You can increase the amount of free RAM by exiting any software you're not using at the moment. You may also have gobs of software starting up during boot time (eg, iTunes, iPod, QuickTime, Realmedia, antivirus, printer icons, Google Desktop, Google Earth, mouse software, Adobe Reader AIM, spyware, adware, etc). All these use up RAM and for most of the time they just sit there doing nothing.

If you have a lot of icons sitting in the lower right hand corner (the System Tray), try right clicking on them and look for "Preferences" or "Settings". Click on Preferences and look for some setting to stop it from running during startup or "Place icon in system tray" or some similar setting. Do what you can and then reboot and see how well you did.

You can also stop things from starting up by using MsConfig (Start/Run, type msconfig, hit enter). This is a bit harder to do as most of the startup processes won't have familiar names and some are necessary for WinXP to run properly. Some instructions are here:
http://www.technibbl...o-use-msconfig/
