EMC8 Reinstall Problem EMC8 is already installed, uninstall first (wrong)

Greetings, First let me say that I have extensively cruised this forum and this isn't redundant, and 2nd, let me say that I have been a Roxio user since about Easy CD Creator V4 (EMC 6,7,7.5 and 8) and when they work they work well. Finally, let me say that their "support" is a misnomer to say the least. Anyway, here's my issue. A while back I ordered the downloadable version of EMC8 to replace my 7.5., AND, IT INSTALLED! Then when I tried to create a DVD using my digital camcorder source, THAT WORKED! Recognized the Canon cam, had full control over rewind, fast forward, capture, etc, OK. But, when I tried to create a DVD movie, using either the "Easy" or not easy options, the program hung. I captured what I wanted then tried to add it to the movie, then nada. There appeared to be some HD activity so I let the program run - I had 12 mins of vid and for one attempt (of many) I let it run overnight. Windows task manager said the program wasn't responding (this is many retrys) son I click "end task", don't send error report at the next windowette, and then get another windowette saying that the problem was "module test1". I opened an issue with Rox "Support" (aka bit-bucket) about why I had a module named "test1" in my "production release" of EMC8 and how could I get an official EMC8 CD set that I thought they owed me. Of course no reply in 2 weeks. So, here's where it gets interesting. I did order a "backup CD set" (plain white label) when I bought the download so I thought that it might be a real production version and I'd reinstall it. Install process said EMC8 was already installed, uninstall it first. I went to add/remove programs (on my Win XP-Pro) and clicked on Roxio EMC8 and got the message that it couldn't uninstall it because the necessary program wasn't found and might be on a network drive (this is a home PC, error pointed to a TEMP directory under my user name in docs & settings, and, yeah, long gone). I followed all of the tips found in this forum and did the following: used Windows "search" for all ROXIO and SONIC occurrances and manually deleted them all; downloaded and ran Roxzap & restarted, ran the registry cleaner and deleted the 4000, or so, instances of Roxio (7.5 & 8) and the 2K instances of SONIC, downloaded and ran the Micro$oft install cleaner and found no Roxio mentioned. Reran the install on my backup CD and after it unloads then copies modules for a while, again get "EMC8 is already installed" uninstall it first. (It doesn't appear on add/remove programs anymore nor on the Micro$oft cleaner!) I thought that maybe this was just incorrect message text and maybe what they wanted was to find a previous version of EMC in order to install an EMC8 upgrade. I reinstalled EMC7.5 - it installed OK! But wait, both of my DVD drives were missing from "My Computer". Following the instructions to go to Control Panel, Systems, Hardware, selecting the (!) DVD drives & "removing" them then running "Add Hardware", I got "unable to install" "error "Code 37". Rather than opening the PC and physically remove the drives, reboot, shutdown, physically reinstall the drives, reboot and (hopefully) rediscover new hardware, I opted to use Norton's GOBACK to the point just prior to installing EMC7.5. I must confess that I also have Nero7 installed. It was there when I used EMC8 to capture video from my cam. While EMC8 was still installed I used Nero7 to capture & burn my vids (successfully). Those products are said to "not play well together" but I don't think Roxio could mistake Nero as EMC8 and prevent installing - or could they? So, I'm at a loss now, what to do...buy & install EMC9 since EMC8 "is already there" ... not a chance, the EMC9 forum reads exactly like this forum does. QUESTION: is Roxio actually looking at one of those long product keys found in the registry of installed programs? Roxzap doesn't clean that? Does anyone know what EMC8's AppID is so I can see if it's in my registry? I really do like EMC's features when digitizing old vinyl records, but I don't really want to go back to 7.5, which worked well but didn't do 16:9 aspect video, like EMC8 does. It is certainly true that SONIC/ROXIO's philosophy must be: "Our customers are important to us: they are our product testing department". They certainly have the worst support and apparently, as of late, the worst record of selling new releases (like every 6 months?) long before they are ready - it's almost like they were purchased by Micro$oft. HELP ME, HELP ME PLZ! P.S. my PC ain't a power house but it exceeds EMC7's requirements, its a homegrown AMD 1.3Ghz with one stick short of a GB memory (768K I think) and lots of free HD. When I do audio or video work all background tasks are ended (Enditall) to make what it's got available to the task at hand. Thanks to any/all who have read this far! Adios, Mike

I dont know how to say it without sounding mean, so I will come right out and say it. Can you give us the quick version, or make it into bullet points, or something shorter? This is like gone with the wind. While it was a great movie, I just couldnt take it all in at once.

Yup, darned if ya do, darned if ya don't. How many times have I read posts where the response is: can you supply some details? can you tell me what your op sys is? can you tell me what your hardware is? did you try this/that? did this ever work? nudge, nudge, know what I mean, know what I mean? (say no more)*
- had to do a manual uninstall of EMC8 (per instructions in other posts) downloaded version broke
- attempts to reinstall EMC8 from ROXIO's "backup CDs" fail because "it is already installed"
- does reinstall think it is already there because of one of those log App (code)names in the registry?
- if so, what is EMC8's registry jibberish name so I can delete it?
I hope this helps. Thanks, Mike
PS plz don't suggest that I use roxiezap or regcleen (see the "Gone With the Wind" post)

nope, didn't find any Roxio references. I did find 2 registry extries that said "creator8" and deleted them but reinstall still failing because "already installed". ideas/suggestions are welcomed. thanks.

Here's the deal: I also started out with the early Roxio EMCs (5, 7, 7.5. and now 8). Because the upgrades did come in like bullets from Machine-Gun Kelly, I never did install 7, nor 7.5 (I travel for a living). So, basically, I upgraded directly from 5 to 8 and other than the Right / Left Channel inbalance problem I'm having (download/convert music LP records and Cassettes to my hard drive with Roxio's Creator 8, the Left Channel signal strength is recorded at much/lots lower strength than the one from the Right Channel), everything seems to be working fine.
My recommendation? REFORMAT and install fresh (I know it's a pain, but if you take the time to make a "safe" copy of your Register (before loading/installing the next), keep loading/installing things in, one at a time and try them out thoroughly, before loading/installing the next. That way, if something blows up after a given load/install, you still have a "safe" Register copy you can revert your System back to.
