Question

I just purchased the Easy VHS to DVD for Mac to convert my old home videos into digital format. I have recorded two separate videos thus far and have discovered that the audio and video is out of sync on both of the recordings. On both recordings, it starts out with the audio lagging about a full second behind the corresponding video and by the end of the hour long recording, the lag becomes much, much worse (closer to 1-2 minutes behind the corresponding video). What do I need to do to fix this problem?

That is usually a PC issue

Make sure your HDD has plenty of Free Space - 8 to 12 GB

Make sure the HDD has been defragged recently (not for SSD's)

Make sure you don't do other things during render/burn - please step away from the mouse

One other tactic that's been used if you can't eliminate some amount of out-of-sync audio, is to capture in shorter chunks, say 10 minutes at a time, and then put those together in Videowave afterward.

Moved to MAC part of the forum but the above suggestions are still valid.

Easy VHS to DVD for Mac has audio sync problems if the High Quality setting is used. For some reason they chose to record that setting using Apple Intermediate Codec which requires a fast hard drive to keep up. Instead choose the Medium Quality setting which records in high-quality h.264 MPEG-4 which also is much more useful than Apple Intermediate Codec. You might be able to correct the audio sync problem with the existing video by using QT Sync which is freeware. Search for it at MacUpdate.com.

I'm sorry but the method I have used since encountering this issue is to always capture using the medium quality setting. The so-called high quality captures using the Apple intermediate Codec. This is pretty senseless for a standard-definition video in my opinion. The file size is large so it unnecessarily consumes hard drive space. I think the large size also is the reason for the audio sync problem. Your Mac may need a faster hard drive to keep up when the video is being captured. The medium quality setting uses the high-quality and very popular h.264 MPEG-4 codec. I don't think you'll see any drop in quality but you will see much smaller file sizes, no audio sync issue and have the video in a format for sharing with others or streaming to smart TVs and other devices.

It's been awhile since I used QT Sync but it was a life saver when I did. It wasn't with a captured video though so I don't know how well it works with this problem. There is a manual here: http://www.qtsync.com/qtsync_manual.php

If you browse this forum you'll see lots of posts about audio sync problems when capturing using the high quality setting. Consider it a product defect and don't use that setting.
