I had a g4 tower running mac os x 10.3.9 that I just sold, however I took my nec nd 1100A dvd burner out and set it up in a PC. windows xp sp2 ect... Before I used to use an 8x dvd +r media and select "data disk" "pc and mac compatible" in toast drag all my AVI's that would fit on a disk burn them and the disk would show up in the xbox as a data rom and play my movies...all good. Now I tried the same w/ PC (same media AND burner mind u) and they do not play in xbox, it does not even see the disk!! how do I duplicate the settings I used to use in toast (just the default) in Easy Media Creator so theese disks show up?????

Take one of your working discs and use Classic's, Tools – Disc and Device Utility to examine the disc.

I suspect it will be using a File System of UDF. Try it with a disc that doesn't work and see what changes.

If it is File System, you need to set that before you burn under Files – Project Properties UDF – No Bridge.

well heres what it said:
dvd+r, single session (with mode 1 data), ""name" 1 session(s), 1 track(s),not recordable, used space: 3.8 gb (2,009,424 blocks)
session 01 (1 tracks, data only)
! medium type: dvd+r
! dvd book type: dvd-rom
! content type: rom/audio
! disc status: not blank
! used space: 3.8 gb
! free space: 0k
! disk capacity: 3.8 gb
! estimated file system size: 3,8 gb
! File System: Joliet
! number of tracks: 1
! number of sessions or borders: 1
! title or volume name: "name"
! number of layers: 1

i'm going to see how many of theese settings I can figure out, to bad there is no tool to just apply theese exact settings to a new project!

I asked for a comparison of the two disk and you presented the info for one… And you did not say if this was the working or non-working disc.

I noted that Joliet was used as the File System.

I should also ask you what is the intended outcome for these - Data? DVD Movie? DVD Music?

that was the info for the original disk (the disk that works fine/was burnt with toast). sorry
I have not made another yet because I am not sure I know where all the settings are, In toast I had no setting options the disk just worked fine with the default (data-"mac & pc compatibility"), I was hoping the manufacture had a similar default on the windows platform.

my intent with this disk is DATA I just want the volume to show up so I can select files off of it thats all NOT a video disk.

sorry if I am not being clear enough, I'm very new to theese different media formats, very confusing.
thankx

Thanks for the updated info! I am at a slight handicap as I do not have an Xbox and really know nothing about them…

I suggest using RW media while testing so you don't waste media.

I think Classic is what you want to use, set to Data Disc. Under File – Project Settings – General tab, you can set the File System to Joliet and designate the disc Volume Name.

Add your files to the project window then click Burn. When the Burn window appears, expand Burn Options and make sure Read-Only disc is checked.

Burn and see if that won't do the trick for you.

Note that if this works, you may want to try setting the File System to UDF – No Bridge and see if one will work. UDF will allow longer filenames and deeper directory structures than Joliet. I am guessing it will still be readable as all DVD Movies are formatted in UDF.

well I regret to say it didn't work :) I also thought I was slick and tried to do a disk copy from a disk that worked fine burnt from toast, to the same media (with the same drive but in a different pc/platform), and even that did not work. A friend was telling me about bitsetting and pointed out this drive (nec nd 1100a) does not support it. is it possible this has something to do with it. and for some reason even though not supported it maybe worked in toast on a mac??

exscuse me, i was just reviewing the email that was sent to me. I ment "Book typing to DVD-Rom" NOT "bitsetting". as you can see I really got the jist of it...lol

Book Type (bitsetting) applies ONLY to 'Plus' media and enhances its' recognition with older players. In my experience ([I]limited/I])I have only stumbled across one Player that needed it.

Your friend is correct that the setting is controlled through the burner's firmware and not all burners even have it. It is then activated through special software before the burn takes place.

To be honest, I still do not understand why you want a Data disc for an X Box??? How is it used?

I have seperate 20 minute avi files from different anime series I follow, or for some it could be tv episodes. So say for a given show I have 30-60 episodes (files). I back up each shows complete season to 1 or 2 dvds. All of my disks I would burn before I can put one in the xbox and it will allow me to select episodes into a playlist and play them back on the tv full screen in the compressed format. very convient. The other option would be convert all my avi's to mpegs and author real video dvds, way to much time, and less would fit on a disk. Funny thing is I have backed up a movie and they don't work either now, I don't do too much of that and it did play in my standalone player but i was ok w/that. Basically ever since I put this burner with windows I can't see any disks that it burns on my xbox, they show do up in a pc or stand alone player. I just need to figure out if its toast or the actual burner that is the culprite.

I find it hard to believe that an X Box will read data and that is what these files are. I suspect they have to be converted into a DVD Movie.

Try this: Open MyDVD and select a No Menu DVD Project.

Add one of you AVI files and burn it to an RW disc.

See if it works.

My xbox has beed modified, the application I use is called XBMC (xbox media center).
here is the website
http://www.xboxmediacenter.de/

I actually prefer the compressed media to a dvd movie. I think they are ideal for backup and everyday play. An xbox is priced competativly with a dvd player, but it can do so much more... thats a whole other topic. :)

I trolled around the Xbmc site but could not find anything definitive… It appears that Xbox still has several limitations that software cannot overcome but you are going to have to contact Xbmc as to proper format for DVD media used as a Data Disc.
