Hi,

I just bought a Macbook Pro 15" with superdrive (I don't know what brand or model)

I'd like to make a backup copy of the system discs that came with it using Roxio Toast.  Is this possible?  Any suggestion on how to go all about this?  TIA

Maced

Those discs are likely dual-layer, so you'll need dual-layer media to make back ups. Select the disc in the Toast Copy window and choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu. When done, eject the disc and choose the Image File setting in the Copy window. Select your disc image, insert the DL disc and click record.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

First, I want to thank you for replying soon.

Second, Disc 1 was saved into 5 image files.  Do I burn them one by one, or can I do it at the same time (how?).  What does "mount" do?

Third, I selected one file (out of five, I don't know how to select them all), and inserted a Ridata Dual Layer DVD-R blank disc.  When I click on "record", I got the following error message: Sense key = Illegal request; Sense code = 0x24; INVALID FIELD IN CDB

It wouldn't surprise me if Apple has made it impossible to duplicate those discs. When you say that choosing Save as Disc Image created five image files I'm completely lost as to how that happened. I suggest going to the Apple Discussions forum for your Mac and search for threads about backing up the OS install discs.

Also, you mention you are using a dual-layer DVD-R disc. I think the Apple Superdrives only work with dual-layer DVD+R discs (usually only the Verbatim ones), but I could be mistaken.

Sorry that I can't help more with this.
