Hi, I just got Toast Titanium. I am using a g4 imac, 10.4.7 software. My Toast is 7.1. I am attempting to burn a disk of mpeg-2 video files to a DVD. Within seconds of hitting the red button to start encoding, Toast crashes. Every single time. It's frustrating. Please help. Thank you.

It could be a problem with the MPEG file. Have you tried with other ones? Do you have Never re-encode selected in the Toast Custom encoder setting window?
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I'm having the same problem. I downgraded to Toast 7.0.2 and it works fine. I don't know why 7.1 crashes when trying to burn Mpeg2 files. Hopefully they fix it soon. It takes 6 hours to burn a 1 hour movie with the non-native Toast version on an Intel Mac.

That shouldn't be. When you click the burn button Toast should say it is multiplexing. If it says it is encoding then go to the Custom Encoder settings window and choose Never next to Re-encoding. If it is taking 6 hours for multiplexing then something is wrong.

I have the same problem burning mpegs as well. Both burn disk and save disc image result in a crash. I've tried disabling re-encoding but that did not resolve the issue either. My machine is a G5 so the problem doesn't appear to be limited to Intels.

OS Version: 10.4.8 (Build 8L127)
Model: PowerMac12,1, BootROM 5.2.6f1, 1 processors, PowerPC G5 (3.1), 2.1 GHz, 1.5 GB
Graphics: ATI Radeon X600 XT, ATY,RV380, PCI, 128 MB
Memory Module: DIMM0/BUILT-IN, 512 MB, built-in, built-in
Memory Module: DIMM1/J6700, 1 GB, DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-4200U-444

I have the same problem as well. I've been using Toast 7.1 for a while now, but this was the first time in a long time that I tried to create a video DVD. It's also trying to reencode the mpeg2, which it used to only multiplex. I "downgraded" to 7.0.2 and it works fine with the same exact source files. I have a G4 so it's not a problem for me to revert to the older version.

It's definitely a bug in the newer version, and as zebu mentioned, it's definitely not limited to Intel Macs. In any event, even if the source mpegs were bad, there's no reason why Toast shouldn't be able to handle the error gracefully.

Where can I download version 7.0.2? I've looked around the Roxio site but I only see the 7.1 version.

I'm also running into this crash. It's been so long since I last burned a disc I can't remember if I ever successfully burned using 7.1. Given these posts I'm glad I didn't delete 7.0.2 when I did the upgrade. At least now, thanks to this thread, I know to stop holding my breath and re-install 7.0.2.

I'm on a G4 running 10.3.9. My mpeg2 files opened fine in quicktime as well as the other program I use to edit the files (MPEG Streamclip) so I don't think its a problem with the source files. I tried sending support the stack trace but haven't heard anything yet.

Has anyone received any acknowledgement about this crash? Or is that something I should even expect for "free" support?

Thanks

The fact that the files open doesnt confirm that there are no issues with them. Playing a video file and converting it to another format is an apples-oranges comparison. I suspect the problem is with the files you are using. If you want to test with some known good files, download some movie trailers from apple.com's quicktime site.

I will give that a try. Thanks. (As another test I retried (the same files that were crashing) using 7.0.2 and the burn worked.)

Is there a way to get 7.0.2? I just bought and downloaded 7.1 and I am finding out I can't burn a dvd with replaytv .mpg files. This is pretty much the only reason what I bought Toast in the first place, so I can burn the replaytv files to dvd. All it does is crash.

I am also unable to use Toast 7.1 to burn CDs or DVDs. The finder works for me. I have Powerbook G4 10.4.8. I think Toast has a terrible 7.1 product that does not work on macs any more! I will let you know the resolution if I fix mine.
