I just got a brand new 80GB iPodŽ- the first iPodŽ I've ever owned that has video capability. And of course the first thing I wanted to do was to load it up with some video content so I can see how well this works. The TiVo Desktop Server worked great for off-the-air content, but for DVDs, I ran out and bought EMC9.
The first thing I tried with EMC9 Disc Copier was to grab the videos off of my new "Weird Al" Yankovic DualDisc and output them into iPodŽ format. The videos are in 4:3 (full screen) aspect ratio. The video transferred to the iPodŽ alright, but the aspect ratio got squeezed to 1:1, making all on-screen content look tall and skinny. Instead of filling my 4:3 screen with the 4:3 video, I get a picture that is squashed horizontally and with black bars on both the left and right hand sides of the screen.
I tried all three of the Disc Copier iPodŽ output formats of "Letterbox", "Stretch" and "Adaptive Scale", but changing these options does not appear to make any difference in the output when viewed on my iPod.
This problem cannot be explained by the fact that the new iPodsŽ are 640 X 480 resolution while the old ones were 320 X 240 since both are 4:3 aspect ratio.
Is anyone else experiencing this same problem?
