Maybe someone can help me.  I just bught this drive and it has the lightscribe capability.  I have updated the firmware on the drive.  My Media Creator 8 is current also.  Using either the label creator or Surthing CD labeler, if i select the lighstribe drive for print there is always the message "drive is currently not available for use", then an error message pops up about needed an update for it to work.

Anyone seen this before?  I have no ideal what update it is talking about.... i know the quality of the lightscribe have been discussed allot about not being worth the hassel, but I would at least like to try it once with the disk that came with drive, now it is just a matter of principle to get it working..

thanks for any help
Jake

You might try going here:http://www.lightscri...dex.aspx?id=305
This is an update to the latest Lightscribe System Software. The system software helps the drive "talk" to the burning software for one thing. It's worth a shot.

What it sounds like you are missing is the LightScribe driver software. I happen to have that same drive, and I'll guess it came with a Nero CD, which if you install all of that stuff, it gets installed. If you are like me, and don;t want/need all the other software installed, just go to the LightScribe site and download the LightScribe System Software. You should then be in business.

You might want to look around the site while you are there. They have some labeling software also, and a number of design downloads.

While you're at the site Jake also download and install the Contrast Utility.

Yup, looks like the download link is pointing to a file that's not there (a new update it seems is supposed to be available in 1.4.113.1). Use the link below, and you should be able to download the 109 update. It's the same one I downloaded a week ago from their site.

Note: This is a direct link to the exe file.

Make sure that you don;t have the site blocked.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I don't think it's a site block problem. I got the same "Page Not Found" error Jake got. But when i manually changed the URL to be ........ 1.4.109.1 exe instead of the 1.4.113.1 it was looking for, it worked fine.

Thanks Larry,,,... That's what i needed.  All is working and I just wasted my freebee disk giving it a whirl.  Looks decent enough for common use.  I don't see why allot of people complain about it... sure beats wasting all that ink on sticky label's that come off after a few uses.

Much thanks for you help...

You're welcome. Happy to hear that got you taken care of.
I agree, it's better than labels. But then anything is IMHO :) Even if they do stay on, unless they are perfectly placed, they cause discs to be unbalanced and hence unplayable. DVD's are even more prone to that problem than Cd's.
